I have coal loads from different manufacturers and I thought it would be interesting to see what are differences. The first one is from Motek. The fit on this coal loads are excellent. Its drop in, and its pressure fit. The coal its real coal, which gives it a diamond sparkle. The color is not totally black, but with shades of black and brown. I also like the full look of this loads.

The second load is the coal load that comes with the Coalporter. Its not very detail, but its a improvement over Penzees load.

The third load is from FR. It comes with the their kit. Its more detail then AZL with small lumps, but Hays Brothers and Motek loads are better.

The last load is from Hays Brothers. Its very detail and looks great, but the load is loose. you need to glue the load to secure it, and you need to adjust the height to show a full load. Otherwise, the load doesnt look full.

Good review, John. I like the way the real coal looks.

No way. Buy a bucket of antracite for $1.00 and crush some of it. Will do about 10,000 cars. Place a little glue on the surface and sprinkle on the cushed and sifted coal. Nothing looks better than coal than coal itself.

    John,

I just ordered the Full Throtle "BLUE COAL" hoppers from Anthony. I also ordered Hays Bros "Blue Coal" loads. Now, when I receive them and learn how to take pictures with my Panasonic digital camera and put them on the computer, I'll share them along with a picture of my in process layout.

Robert, simple pictures: put Panasonic camera in Macro mode (the flower icon), put camera close (<<12"), push shutter button.

Dan, thanks for correcting my error. They are good people. They went out of the way to make sure it was exactly what I wanted.

Don and Hemi, they are great ideas, but for us lazy modelers, we just to install the load into the cars.:D

I also use a mini-tripod. It really helps steady the camera for close up. I have a full size tripod, but I prefer to use my mini.
