What loco? What scale? LED or incandescent? DC or DCC?

    Feed me.

I assume you mean for DC operation since Radio Shack doesn't sell DCC stuff.

There is no kit that I know of, but a small bridge rectifier can be hooked in series with the loco motor using the AC terminals. It's + - terminals are connected together and a 1.5 v. lamp connected across the AC terminals. The diodes drop a nearly constant voltage as soon as the track voltage reaches about 2 volts.

The bridge needs to be rated to carry the maximum motor current your loco draws, but the voltage rating should be as low as you can find to reduce both size and cost. It need only handle the lamp voltage.

Directonal lighting requires the addition of 2 diodes. One replaces the wire between the + - terminals and is wired + to +, - to -. The other is wired in series with the lamp so that current only flows in one direction.

If you need more help, I think I may be able to resurect a copy of the RMC article I published back in 1945 when I invented the circuit.

Ho scale, DC say an Athern engine, no command control, 1.5v light bulb. Just a basic circuit. There must be values for this stuff, as I have no clue. My power pack seems to peak at about 14 volts DC.
