These are just some of pics of have from my conrail themed layout. this layout is double tracked in an L shaped circle . i have a backdrop in the middle to separate both sides. I also have four track yard out of view and im working on building a loco shop.
that video was taken when i was in the early stages of the layout. as a matter of fact i had just moved this layout to my parents house in ohio . it had been in tennessee and i disassembled it and luckily it was not severly damaged in the move. here is another video i have
that last video i posted on here was made possible by a real conrail train that i had filmed in berea, ohio back in august 2007. it was actually a csx engine but was still painted conrail blue. it was a c40-8 and the leslie sounded wonderful as you can tell. it was really nice to see a conrail leader in a place that was once really so much conrail.
here are some more pics. there is a pic of the yard in its early stages. i will need to upload some more photos later tonight as i have this ballasted and scenery put down.
I dunno, looks like I need to see it up close. Pack it up and send it to me an I'll give you my feedback after 6 or 7 years of testing.:tb-biggrin: Great job. keep up the good work!!!!
every now and then you will see some interesting run through power on my layout. hope you guys like santa fe
some more pics of the yard. this mountain was made just a couple of months ago. i tried experimenting with making my own rock molds out of crumpled up aluminum foil and plaster of paris.
some more pics of the layout. these give you an overview of just the size of the layout. yeah its kind of small but still a little big. kind of like the ohio central saying small enough to serve big enough to care. i dont think my railroad is a pathetic as the ohcr.
this tunnel was an ok job when i completed it . i run auto rack cars on my layout and the manufactured tunnel portals made by chooch enterprises that i had just would not give the proper clearances on curved track. so i scratchbuilt these out of balsa wood. the rock outcroppings were another experiment. on the left is a woodland scenics mold. the one on the right was made out of sheets of styrofoam stacked on top of each other. then i took my dremel tool and grinded a rough rock surface into the foam. after that i took crumbled up alluminum foil and plaster of paris to get the final surface. i think the painting of the rock turned out pretty good. sometimes my paint weathering isnt so successful as you can see with the rocks on the left.
Photos from the beginning these were taken back in march 2007. i had originally started this layout in january 2007 when i lived in tennessee. i used woodland scenic styrofoam risers and sheets of foam from the hardware store to build this layout. i also used 2x4's to build the framework. im sure you all can relate to where this is on the layout the creek and coal mine scene
Looks great Dan!!! Have had a few conrail units come through and they are neat looking and sound great!
thanks montana rail link . so tell me where did you get the pic of the progress rail locomotive? When i worked for alabama and tennessee river railroad we used to deliever old freight cars to their albertville, al scrap yard. at this yard they would cut up and salvage the railroad cars.
