Is it still with you? It never left............:D
Are you still married ? She hasn't either...........still together after 20 years. Actually, this hobby helped keep me sane after my divorce from my first wife
Are you model train rich and cash poor ? More like other-expense rich and cash poor.....but for now I have enough.
Has it faded with time? It ebbs and flows, much like the tide.
How do you feel about your MRR hobby today? It's been a blast- I still have restrictions to time, space, and available funds, but I'm working within them quite nicely. I'm in it until they call me to "catch the westbound"

When model railroading is on "Prime-Time" TV and has millions of viewers interested in the three hour 'operating sessions' the way they are entranced with Monday Night Football... then... that initial joy of model railroadng will be rekindled.

Just think of all the commercials for model trains and related hobby products. Can you imagine the play-by-play and color announcers calling the operating session moves.

Well, what has happened to that initial excitement? Still got it,I keep learning new things, and finding that what I used to dread is quite easy,so the sky's the limit now on what I can do.

Is it still with you? Yes
Are you still married ? Never was, never will.
Are you model train rich and cash poor ? I don't have a ton of MR stuff, and if I want something bad enough,I can buy it.
Has it faded with time? It comes and goes, there is the occasional burnout.
How do you feel about your MRR hobby today? Feel alright,I guess.

I was selling off some used stuff at a train show this weekend. One gent came by and was VERY excited about getting into the hobby. He stuttered a bit - I think that was inherent and not train related, but he also drooled a little when he picked up a few trains to view them. I think that was train related and not inherent........

His words showed his excitement - "I came to buy HO, but your N scale trains are speaking to me - they are saying "take me home, take me home!"

Now, you can't fake that kind of excitement!

I still have it, tempered somewhat by the fact that at $3-4 per gallon, going to hang around the LHS isn't a cost effective way to spend some free time.......

Well I still Love the hobby From a child on there's always been an excitement with trains. I still spend way to much, but don't plan on stopping.
I wish the kits that were offered in N Scale years ago back in the 70's & 80's were still offered. The Hobbyist is being attempted to either be drummed out in favor of RTR types, not my fav. But on this site you find many innovative craftsman that find imaginative methods of building what they want. Not to slight anyone but the one that comes to mind rite away is the "Modesto Depot".

That's what it is all about for me - relaxation and enjoyment. I don't have a layout right now but I am planning one and I always felt that a train moving was the stress leaving. :tb-ooh::thumbs_up:

I still feel like a new model railroader. I've never been able to really throw money at it like a lot of people do, but there has been a steady stream of purchases that I "just have to have," and yes, I probably "should" have spent that money more wisely. But I love it all, everything about it, and I think I probably love model railroading more every year that passes. I don't spend nearly enough time on it, but that is only because of health issues as well as life interfering.

My partner supports my addiction. An enabler, I guess you could say. :)

Well, what has happened to that initial excitement? Is it still with you? Yes, but with a nearly complete large layout, it's diminished a bit, especially due to recent events (see below). There are refinements that I look forward to making, especially where my benchwork and tracklaying were substandard.

Are you still married? No. I'm recently divorced. The railroad had nothing to do with it, as my ex was my partner in building it.

Are you model train rich and cash poor? Never. For the size of my railroad, 338 sq. ft. of table, my roster is pretty modest. Most of my buildings, ships and bridges are scratchbuilt, and most of the scenery is weeds from my yard. Apart from a planned binge in 2002, most has been acquired over time. I'm also at an age where incremental purchases are not a problem. I am now finishing my West Harbor scene, mostly with raw materials bought many years ago.

Has it faded with time? It's come and gone over the years. Right now it's faded a bit, as I have so many other things to deal with. I hadn't run trains for about three months, but went out a few nights ago, and they ran as smoothly as ever. The train room is pretty much sealed, so I wasn't that surprised.

How do you feel about your hobby today? I wish I had more time for it. With so many conflicting demands due to my job and re-orienting my life, it's on the back burner. I'm building some new furniture for the house. I may want to sell the house when the market recovers, so I am concentrating on projects that can be removed. The layout can be moved, but that would take a planning effort beyond my ken at this time.

I still love this hobby as much as I ever have. Unfortunately the condition of my health has been up and down since my surgery last year, and that's slowed progress on my projects considerably.

Is it still with you? Comes and goes
    Are you still married ?
Yep....23 years. She knows where I am (train room), knows what I'm doing (messing with trains) and knows where my money goes (usually train stuff)
Are you model train rich and cash poor ? Not really, just cash poor...Blasted Stock Market :(
    Has it faded with time?
    Nope
How do you feel about your MRR hobby today? Still love it and can't believe the advances since I started with that first Postage Stamp Train Set. Great relaxer (most of the time) and a place to go and forget about things for awhile :)

    Is it still with you?
    - Yes and no.
Are you still married ? - No but hobby was not an issue.
Are you model train rich and cash poor ? N0 - I'm just poor.
Has it faded with time? - No - It has been at about the same level since childhood.

How do you feel about your
MRR hobby today?- Yes and no.
I experience it as a creative outlet that encompasses almost every aspect of life I choose to apply to it. It can:

    • Be as complex or simplistic as I like
    • Provide new areas to explore or or I can just stay with the familiar
    • Generate insurmountable challenges or let me stay with the tried and true.
    • Be extremely technical requiring linear thought process and analysis to achieve the desired results or have simple black and white answers that work.
    • Be all about detail, history and prototype or 100 percent freelance "it is my railroad and I will do what I want"
    • Be very socially oriented or completely lone wolf.
    • Be very expensive or almost free.
I could go on but let me abstract it a bit:
    • < insert this extreme > or < insert the other end of the spectrum > or < insert anything in between >
The hobby let's us explore it on our terms.
