Greetings everyone. As a newcomer to the hobby I was very glad to have come across this terrific site. I am 60 years young and purchased some N gauge about a year ago on a whim. Thought it would make a great novelty on a 3’x6’ oak table in a corner of my kitchen area. I can get by with that since I am no longer married. Anyway . . . it’s a simple little set up (not a layout, mind you) just some Kato Unitrack running around a beautiful antique lamp and a few jars full of old marbles an such. Thought some time ago I would add a saw mill to this conversation piece (not a layout) just to add a little interest, and it did . . . for a while. That’s when things started going downhill. Now I have 12 buildings, and numerous vehicles, and people, and trees, and rocks, and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Every 3 weeks now, I have to pick the whole mess up and clean it all, then place it all back down (just right, of course). I’m beginning to believe that some serious counseling may be in order, and I feel quite alone out here. Had no luck locating a support group in the yellow pages, and my friends just glaze over when I try to talk about it, so I’m turning to you for help. Gotta go for right now. . . I can see a phone pole that’s a little bit out of alignment and . . . oh, I think that’s the UPS guy at the door. Later
Welcome to TrainBoard! Counseling? This is an affliction we'd prefer not to have cured! Meanwhile, don't worry. You are not alone. There are plenty of people who model in N scale. And some darned good ones can be found posting right here. Boxcab E50
Hey i started at your age into N scale and now 2 years later the car is in the driveway and a layout is going up. It's funny how these trains grow, just the other day UPS dropped several packages and the driver knows me by my first name. He is stopping by way too often but i think i'll just keep it this way. Welcome and have fun with N scale railroading. Dave
HA-HA you've been bitten by the N-scale bug, don't matter how old you are, there is no known cure. welcome aboard, enjoy
Welcome to trainboard and some of us will not hold that N thing against you. Make sure to look around railimages.com (a link is in the upper right hand corner found under the little gray guy)
If you're looking for a support group to help you beat your obsession with your new toys, boy did you come to the wrong place. Most all of us are in dire need of counseling for our obsession. Your only hope for salvation is to try to keep your layout at 3' x 6'. If you can't, you're a lost soul. It will consume your life. I started at 4x6 and then slowly but surely was consumed by the "More Stuff Syndrome". Like you, I am 60 also and, started about 2 years ago. Unlike you though, I have a wife who at least attempts to keep my obsession in check. She doesn't do too well though as her "computer room and office" has recently changed to my "train room". Best of luck and welcome aboard. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
I'll further extend the welcome to you from TrainBoard and further state that it is by far the best N-scale address on the entire web. From your post, sounds like you are in the right place. Jamie
Another one has submitted to N Scale Gods! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! As John MacLean in Die Hard put it so eloquently (after he throws a body out of a window of course) : "Welcome to the party, pal!" :highfive: arty: Just enjoy yourself and ask away with all the questions.
Howdy and a hearty welcome. N Scale model railroading is a great hobby with great people! Welcome aboard!
Welcome to the TrainBoard! I'm afraid in time that you will find visiting this forum just as addictive as your N scale habit. Ben
Welcome to Trainboard! We will work feverishly to keep you addicted and provide guidance to keep you in denial as you accumulate a housefull of trains and associated N scale paraphenalia.
