Hi guys/gals. I'm new here, obviously. I've been out of railroading for a few years now. I started my own business about five years ago, and before that I was married. Both have lead me down a road devoid of model trains and railroading. My business has been almost a 24/7 endevor. I've got employees now, and am looking at having some spare time to myself for a change. And with winter coming on, I'll have plenty of time inside to work on stuff.

When I was in the service, I focused on building locomotives and rolling stock as the military kept me on the move. And that doesn't jive with having a layout. But I usually found a friendly club near the base, and that gave me a place to meet other railroaders, work on a layout, learn new things, and run my trains. Now I've got a house. So all that's going to change. My girl is open to the idea of adding a second story over the living room/dinning room that would be all mine. Should work out to about a 1000 sq. ft. So that would be a great start.

I am from the east coast. Well, more like Western NY. So it's PRR, Erie, D&H, Lakawanna, DL&W, Suzie Q, etc. for me. I also have my own road, the Allegheny Route (Foxburg, Mt. Jewet & Corydon). After discovering freelance railroading, it was fun. I consinder it what used to be (don't know if it still is) a "Prototype Freelance Road." Is that term even still around? All the rails, rolling stock, yards, industry, were all really there at one time. I used to have a website years ago for it, but it's gone now. I'll have to see about getting a new one up.

I hope to make new friends and catch up on all the progress in model railroading. And it seems like it's exponential. So I have a LOT to learn. Should be a nice break from cars.

    Welcome to Trainboard!

Is your proto-lanced layout set anywhere near my father's birthplace of Tidioute PA, located on a big bend in the Allegheny River, or other landmarks like Oil City, Tionesta (sp?) and the Drake Oil Well?

Yes. It actually spans most of western Penna. and some of Western NY, then over into Ohio. Coal, Westen Penna. Oil and Steel are the staples of the Allegheny Routes economy. In Ohio, we interchange with the V&O and South Ridge Lines. With a contract with the PRR, we are able to haul all the way to Bethlehem with raw materials.
