I'm modelling a connection with the Illinois Terminal in the 1960s (in N scale). Can anyone recommend some ITC freight cars that would be suitable? The MTL releases I have found are all 1970s and after. Atlas do a 42' gon but i'm not sure what the build date would be. Does anyone have one to check? Also, I know MTL did a brown IT 40' box car years ago. Can anyone tell me what the catalogue number is for it? Cheers, qmodeller
The Kadee Micro-Trains boxcar was catalog 20600, released June 1986. It's a moderately difficult find, but they are out there. Somewhat easier to find are the three numbers on the 50 foot yellow boxcar, catalog 31010 / 031 00 010, released in March 1977 (Road Number 9449), December 1990 (RN9440) and July 2004 (RN 9444). Don't forget, Micro-Trains has their all time list of regular run releases on their website, in several formats.
Hi George, Thanks for your information. I checked your UMTRR comments on the 9444 boxcar. It seems that the series was built in 1971, so a tad late for my era, although given certain details from your research you weren't 100% sure. Anyway, i'm not sure I want to haul tankage either! I didn't know about the MTL database, so now I know what they've produced - thanks again. Cheers, qmodeller
Build date is 10-48 I have one of these on my "soon to go to ebay rack". Pm me if you are interested.
Atlas makes (or is about to release) an IT steel caboose. I know it's not a revenue car, but still something. Brooklyn Locomotive Works -- Your N Scale Source has them.
