Hey all, anyone in the Chicago/NW burbs who knows of a shop or who
can instruct me in the HO DCC ways. I'm really trying to get a layout going
for my 9yr old without breaking the bank (keeping the wife happy).

    Thanks.

    metra148,

Went to Des Plaines Hobbies the other night, that place is train paradise.
My kid lost it in there. And the guys there are very cool.

    Thank you!

    Hill's Hobby and Collectors' Shop

Hill's had new owners about 10 years ago. IMHO it was OK for Lionel trains but disaster for N or HO.
I don't know if they still have the "part time toy store" a block down?

The website links to their new location. Please be aware Cook county + city sales tax can be 10.5% (At least it is in downtown Chicago).

Also try a place called "Chicagoland Hobbies", on the north side. If you make it up to Milwaukee for anything there is a place called Greenfield's Hobby and news stand (or similar) that is incredible.
