    Leopards 1...

    Sure, from Wikipedia:

Production was set up at Krauss-Maffei of Munich from early 1964 onward, with deliveries of the first batch between September, 1965 and July, 1966. The Leopard was soon being purchased from Germany by a number of NATO members and other allies including in chronological order Belgium (1968), The Netherlands (1969), Norway (1970), Italy (1971), Denmark (1976), Australia (1976), Canada (1978), Turkey (1980) and Greece (1981).

    Cheers

Close as I could come to a Leopard was that at the time.....

and as for 1973 - being as I rail against the chronic underfunding of the real Canadian Armed Forces, my version always gets the "good stuff" earlier than the real one - yu should see my 1973 F22's....."snicker".....................

As long as your happy :mtongue: I just didn't want you to tell someone who might be a tank buff and they tell you to blow smoke, but after what you just said you might show them an Alco Road Switcher :mwink:

    Atlas announced these this month....

    http://download.atlasrr.com/Images/NFreight/n40ps1/1208/40%20PS-1%20USAX%20.jpg

I painted and made decals for these last month...

MTL car on the left, lowered Atlas Box in the middle, stock Atlas on the right.

** I know they are plug doors, not sure what the army would be doing with plug doors and I couldn't find any pictures of them but these were laying in my project box in need of paint, so they got a bit of green and some custom decals.

MTL army olive drab is a hard paint to match, it took 6 tries to get the color right. I wonder what color the Atlas cars will be?

Leopards came in 78 and we never got the 2's. We are still slogging around in the 1's. Now they say we are not going to even replace them. We currently RENT 24 leopard 2's from Germany(thank you) to meet the needs in Afganistan.

I guess I never realized that the Leopard on Puddington's picture is a 2. I though it would be based on the old Arnold model 1 Leopard which was sold as a flatcar load in the 60s.

Sorry for any confusion I might have caused....

Possible HTTX car in military service

OK so what is the demand for an N Scale HTTX.

    These cars were
built by Pullman in mid-70's as TTX / HTTX flats, and are still in service 2009. They are 100-ton multipurpose flats with heavy equipt. tie downs. 60 ft long, 10.2 ft wide, wood decked.

These 60' Standard level car, with an all wood deck, side and end stake pockets, have heavy-duty turnbuckles and chains in four channels two either side opf the center sill and two on the side sills. The tie-down system consists of retractable tie-down anchors equipped with 1/2" chain assemblies. The car sometimes have heavy-duty chains and anchors.

The cars are seen in agricultural lading duty with new tractors and combine harvesters - but are often photographed with military loads too.

As a kit this would include the decks with their 16 side pockets, wooden decks, and miniature turnbuckles to aid modeling.

Is there interest in this addition to the N Scale catalog?

Would be a nice addition to the 68 foot DODX flats. I've seen Bradleys, Humvees as well as engineer equipment and other non combat type vehicles loaded on them.

I have multiple Period II German trains (both engines and cars), but it might be in bad taste to post pictures. They are a little difficult to find, but that just makes the collecting more fun!!
