I may have posted this before but figured it was worth posting again since, well, the seller keeps on re-listing this on eBay. I have been watching for SD40-2's for AT LEAST 9 months, and this same EXACT Kato is listed in the results.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/N-SCALE-KAT...713948?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item1e741777dc

Same seller. AND he hasn't budged on the price in over 9 months! $209.00 for a BNIB early NS SD40-2. I mean maybe I am wrong, and I can see how the seller may think this particular model is hard to come by, but come on! No ditch lights, no decoder installed. Pfffftttttt!!! Surely the fees he is paying to re-list this over and over again would be enough for him to, oh I don't know, drop the price a smidge?! Hahaha

Probably isn't being charged any fees, ebay has been doing free listing promotions for a while. And believe you only get charged fees if it does sell.

This appears to be a relatively rare and sought out item. Can't find anything else online identical to it. That being said, apparently it's NOT that sought after - at least for that price. The MSRP on it 13 years ago was $100. Since Kato hasn't re-release the SD40 in NS livery, perhaps it is, indeed, rare.

Another one just popped up on ebay with an opening bid of $60. Would be interesting to see how high that one goes, though it is a bit underdescribed.

I get a kick out of the name "Big Discount Trains"....

I took a look at the other listings of this seller, and they don't appear to be at too much of a discount.

    Not that surprising really...

I think the problem is that he couldn't use punctuation marks in his name, as in Big 'Discount' Trains. Either that or he's actually charging a lot less than he WANTS to charge, hence a discount.

Just because there are watchers doesn't mean they're thinking of buying the item.
To tell the truth, one is me. I'm waiting to see if any suckers fall prey, I really hope not.
I would imagine the other is doing the same and is a good chance it's due to this thread.

    NS SD40-2

I gave up on trying to find a reasonable priced Kato Norfolk Southern SD40-2 and bought a new pair of discounted BNSF engines for $69 each and a ordered a set of NS decal sheets from Shellscale decals. With some black airbrushing and decaling I figured I saved a bunch of money.

They pop up every now and then. Generally they go for $70-$80

Isn't that ironic. Someone gave me one of those and I sold it on eBay. :)

By not paying close enough attention. When I was selling, I'd always look at the ad, before and after uploading. It is easy enough to make a mistake- Been there, done that.

Yeah. I was wondering how that would hold up if I buy it now for $15 and then complain I didn't get a Vet!!!!!!

Of course, we are all probably mistaken. That is probably a REALLY detailed N scale scene and that is a pretty good modeling job with an old Bachmann Corvette.

I wanted to put up a warning earlier today about a questionable item listing I saw Saturday night, but I could not find the item today on That Auction Site. Tonight, I got a belated email from the web site that an item I had been looking for, a KATO N scale Santa Fe diner, had been listed. When I clicked on the listing, I found it had been sold.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300940410713&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:3160

The listing is for Santa Fe Super Chief diner #1341. Last night when I first saw the listing, I got all excited. Then I noticed there were only 5 wide windows per side in the dining section. I checked a visual prototype checking guide I have made, with side-by-side drawings of all Santa Fe streamline diners. They ALL had 6 wide windows on each side in the dining section. Further the auction site item had a passenger boarding door shown on the kitchen side, while all ATSF diners had only a small board for loading kitchen supplies.
I checked the car number. #1341 was a dormitory lounge, not a diner. In fact, I already have the #1341 model. Great model- but not a dining car. I tried last night to send the seller a question about the listing, but for some reason, the auction site would not accept the question message.
I was going to warn readers here, but too late.
I hope whoever bought it can be happy with a lounge dormitory.

I know the identity of that seller. He used to be mostly into selling railroadiana. His prices and items were always good. Memory says I've also seen him selling larger scale model railroading items. But have not had contact in a few years now.
