I think it's just the default definition of new condition that eBay uses. Actually, I was interested in it at first because I'm working on building a VIA Rail baggage car using Athabasca sides and I don't want to cut up the American Limited core kit that came with the sides. Of course, the shipping charges killed the deal before I noticed that the seller hadn't covered/removed the original price. (Hint: to ship it to Soviet Canuckistan, it would cost more than the original price and then you have that annoying import charges) Also, from what I understand, the interior and the underframe are a single piece on the Kato cars.
Even better is you can get one brand new from Kato parts for $8.00. Which is $7 cheaper than that price on that package.
It appears that the days of endless free relistings may be numbered over on that Internet Auction Community... at least if I am reading the eBay "Spring 2015 Seller Update" correctly... titled "Fee Updates For Greater Seller Success" (ha!) http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/springupdate2015/fees-and-features.html#FAQ1-28 The following "adjustments" start May 1, 2015: - First, if you don't have an eBay store, you're down to 20 free listings per month, plus 20 more in "collectibles" categories, which include "Toys and Hobbies" and thus N Scale. - Once you use those up, you get a full listing fee credit if your item sells, but only if it sells. And if you have to list it three times for it to sell, you only get the listing free credit once. That should mean that the people that list "vintage" items at, ahem, optimistic prices, will have to pay every time they relist. - If you list something for only 1 day or for 3 days, add a dollar "Special Listing Duration Fee" on to the listing fee. Ouch! 7 and 10 day auctions won't have this charge. - If you have an eBay store, the listings that come with it are all converted to Fixed Price Listings. You also get 100 free auction-style listings in Collectibles, but the same rules apply. The net of it is that eBay is trying to (1) push people into their Stores, at a guaranteed revenue rate (to them, not you) of at least $15.95 / month, and (2) push people to Fixed Price Listings. The next sound you will hear is more sellers heading for the exits. Buyers will follow right along...
Makes no sense at all, just like so many of their other changes. Yup. It's very obvious. They must need money, so this was a choice to try boosting revenues. It's long past time for that site to topple themselves. Talk about mismanaged/micro-managed to death. It's too bad they don't have people in leadership with real business acumen. Oh well. We do have our FREE Swap Meet Forum available....
If I'm reading the "Spring Seller Update" it should, but I generally feel like I need a magnifying glass and a doubletalk translator to be able to understand their "information." Also, you gotta love the liberal use of footnotes. I <think> what it says is that even if you have a store, you still have to pay for each auction-style listing and relisting after the first 100 in Collectibles only. since the freebies are converted to fixed price. That doesn't stop the fixed price beat from going on, but I already have those excluded from my searches. And for those who sell "Media" it's even more exciting news (sarcasm intended) but that's for another forum and another day...
The flip side, and down side, about that is that many sellers drop the price each time they relist until it sells. I get the feeling that finding a good deal might be about to get harder on eBay.
This is why I've never sold anything on eBay, I just can't figure out all these fees I just received a box car that had been bought by 2 others before me and I was the first to open it. I was just amazed that no one even bothered to check it before reselling it. It just seems wrong to me and discourages me from buying any more unless I get a really good deal, otherwise I’m just going to buy new from now on.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-of-10-L...232?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51ccb39180 $350 I'd give about 40..... for all of them. And then, just for the motors.
Old open pilot design that if one is lucky maybe MT still has pilot conversions for them that allows one to body mount a 1015. And most likely can be found at a swap meet for maybe $15.
Johnny... I think the only thing you need to know is... If you add up all the fees that may apply...and they equal or exceed the price of the item you are trying to sell or buy... There is a FEE for that !!!! :teeth:
Basically... - Listing fee, most of the time, plus additional fees if you want more features like an extra description line, a gallery entry, etc. The basic listing fee is 30 cents. - Final value fee, which is 10% of the total amount PLUS the shipping cost. (This was an "incentive" to offer free shipping and not overcharge for shipping, though I think the net effect was to get most people to INCREASE their shipping costs). - Paypal fee, which is 30 cents plus 2.9% of the transaction. So... if you sell something for 10 dollars and shipped it free... 30 cents to list it One dollar final value fee 59 cents Paypal fees Plus, you had to ship it free. The minimum for a first-class package these days is $2.32, but eBay sometimes offers discounts, depending on your status as a seller. So your net for the $10 sale is something like $5.79.
I saw a lot of people do just that, raise shipping costs. Also, it is difficult to factor in any time a seller invests to create a sales lot, create a listing, monitor it and then complete their sale. I sell a lot of small (under $10.00) dollar items. Their constant meddling made that venue absolutely non-cost effective.
Eventually they are going to commit the business equivalent of suicide. I can see Amazon lurking around the corner.
I believe they have been trying for many years. If they had anyone aboard who actually knew how to run a business, it would be helpful.
The laziest of possible searches on Amazon-- "N Scale" -- yielded over ninety thousand results. The first page was dominated by Bachmann Trains, which was offering items at prices ranging from not so great to more than fifty percent off the MSRP. Yes, we know about Bachmann's 'fantasy' (mostly) MSRP. I didn't go any farther than that.
Anyone notice the Roundhouse 4 car old time passenger car set @ $202.00+ ? 13 bids last time I looked.
Yeah, I didn't realize at the time how opportune buying those Athearn Overlands at the lhs was til I started my current project trying to detail them. In the process of researching, it looks like No One has any for sale. Not surprised by the tall Bay bidding actually. Though at that price, it almost becomes cost prohibitive to actually run them, let alone modify them. Let's face it, out of the box they leave a lot to be desired. Sent from the magical mystery box
