So, family health emergency means that I will be in Dallas this week. If I get the chance to get away for a little bit I thought I would go to a hobby shop, maybe pick up some rolling stock or whatever. I will have a rental car. I will be near White Rock Lake if that places me in the Dallas area, though I am not averse to driving to the various suburbs or to Fort Worth. Thanks in advance for you suggestions.
You should visit Discount Model Trains in Addison Texas. (north of Dallas) They have a huge selection of N scale...... everything. It's worth the visit. 4641 Ratliff Ln Addison, TX 75001 (972) 931-8135 Give them a call for directions.. They open at 10:00 AM
Yes, worth a visit. Do call as they have been saying they were moving for the 5 years so better safe than sorry. Jason

Discount Model Trains up in Addison has lots of N. There is a place way up I35 East in Denton too, but not sure if Silver Spike is still there. Edit: Yup, still there. Has not moved. My directionally challenged brother was not able to find it.
I had seen Discount Model Trains, and they also appear to be one of our sponsors. The Google search says they are in Addison, but the web page has a contact address of Illinois. They have the added bonus of being a TrainBoard Advertiser.:thumbs_up::thumbs_up: Thanks for the information. I will give them a call to make sure they are in Addison. Adam
1. These are not the same entities. Discount Model Trains in Addison, TX is not a Trainboard advertiser. 2. Discount Model Trains has not moved, and isn't planning on it in the near future. The proprietor was famous for making this "threat" in the early oughts, but hasn't in some time. 3. Despite the constant rumors on Trainboard, Silver Spike Hobbies in Denton, TX is still very much in business. They were at the Plano, TX show this past weekend. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays though. Great place to get T&P, CB&Q, and especially MKT custom paint jobs. Let me know if you would like to meet a fellow Trainboarder or two up at Discount or at Silver Spike. I can be over there pretty quickly and work is slow enough (read: "not crazy" as opposed to "nothing to do") this week to allow it. The following is my response from a previous post, where yet again someone claimed Silver Spike closed.
totally agree on the Discount Model Trains in Addison. They have just about anything you could ask for. Silver Spike is pretty good not the size of Discount. Talk to the owner of SIlver Spike at the Plano show this past weekend. have been there many times, most recently a month ago. no doubt about meeting some fellow trainboarders at discount give us a shout would love to put faces with names.
A few years ago I manged to visit Silver Spike when I was up that way. It is a little bit of a "hike" out of Dallas but if you go during mid day and avoid the morning and afternoon traffic it does not take long to get there. Kind of set back in a corner of a strip center so I drove by it a few times before I saw it.
Not sure how many times someone needs to post, "Yes, go to DMT" but what the heck...go there. Silver Spike and Hobby World are good, too. In both cases, I sometimes find some stuff that for one reason or another, DMT doesn't have.
If you've got the time, you might also check out the railroad museum at fair park near downtown Dallas. Here's the link: Museum of the American Railroad, Fair Park, Dallas, Texas If you've got time to railfan, go to Saginaw, Tx (just North of Ft Worth about 45mins from Dallas). The BNSF (mainly) and UP run though there and you can park down at the depot just South of the diamonds and watch alot of trains roll by. Thought I'd give you a couple other options since I'd just be repeating that Discount Model Trains is the best shop in town and have the best N scale selection for miles.
Ditto on Silver Spike and Discount. Denton is much closer to me than Addison (and much less traffic), so it's my shop of choice.
I was in the Dallas area over the weekend. I found Discount Model Trains and spent more money there than at the train show. Well layed out, well stocked with helpful friendly staff.
I lived in Dallas for 9 years and Discount Model trains is hard to beat. Great staff, selection and prices. And Rossford is right, it cant be said enough...
