Anyone know if there is a site where I can download the "Burlington" font found on the chinese red units or do I have to "buy" it.

First, a hearty Welcome to Trainboard!!

I have honestly never searched for it before, but that's not to say it doesn't exist as freeware.

    Welcome to trainboard rlambrecht.

I haven't had much luck finding free railroad fonts. Railfonts sell various railroad related fonts at what seems to me to be a reasonable price. You can check out their websight here http://www.railfonts.com/

HEY...welcome to TB!! I don't know where you can find them, but I do know you are modeling a cool period of time, a cool line, and a cool paint scheme ;)

At the risk of reviving an old topic and not quite answering the original question, I found a free TrueType font which is (unsurprisingly) called Zephyr.

You can download it from here.

I'd be interested to know if anybody finds the white Burlington font to go over black and Chinese Red.

    Cheers
    David

I have often searched for railroad fonts. IMHO, the best you can do for a true type font is "close" and you can get pretty close. There are thousands of free fonts available. I find that the commercial artist or advertising type persons are most familiar with these fonts.

For example, I use Railroad Roman TTF for the Espee numbers. Not accurate, I know, but close. In any case, it is more forgiving in N scale.

I believe this is a Type 1 font instead of a True Type font.

I'm still looking for this Burlington font in a True Type.

When I need to do this, I look for a similar font and go with "close enough". There are other times like with my Rio Grande Ski Train that I needed something more specific. Instead of doing an entire font, I take a sample .jpg image from the internet and use the "trace and Live Paint" option in Adobe Illustrator. Any further adjustments needed I make within illustrator. All illustrator files can be shared with photoshop easily. I print using Photoshop. Here is an example of my recent work. The Rio Grande logo's were made this way. If you need some help send me a PM and I will make a conversion or 2 for you.
