Went railfanning CSX in the eastern Kentucky coal fields on the ex L&N line from Winchester, KY to Jackson, KY. Didn't see much as far as trains but did see some spectacular mountain railroading. Here are shots of the Ravenna, KY yard with 3 coal trains.

    Lebanon Junction, KY

This town is south of Louisville on the CSX and in the pic appears to be an old concrete coaling tower.

    La Grange, KY

While driving through Kentucky with my family, we got off of I-71 at a town called La Grange to eat lunch. In the downtown area we noticed something rather interesting...a railroad track that went right down the middle of the street for about 2 blocks or so. The rear ends of parked cars were only about 10 feet of so from the track, and you literally drove down the track when driving down that street. I believe this is part of the CSX Louisville to Cincinnati line. It must be interesting when train go through there....

Here's a pic I took of it from our vehicle:

I was in Ashland, Kentucky at a gas station that's next to the main CSX line there and a train came while I was pumping gas, so I grabbed my camera and snapped a few shots real quick. This was the only one that turned out somewhat decent
