Hey everyone, I have had my layout up for sale, with no buyers, I need to get it gone soon, as I am moving out of my house and Moving to Germany in the next few months. I don't think it will survive the move, My last one didn't (Damn you army movers!) and I don't think we are going to have room for it over at Baumholder. I really don't want to just throw it away, So I am offering it up here, ansd on the other forums I frequent. I would like to get something for it, so make me a offer, or just come and get it, PM me if you would like to see it in person I live in the Hawks prarie area. I know that this will probally get locked or moved, I am getting desprate though, I need to find it a home.

Any reason you cannot take it with you? If you pack it well enough, it can survive a worldwide move.
I would start by building a crate (using 3/8" or better waferboard, or plywood, and 2x2 interior stiffening framework) for it, removing the non-affixed structures, etc from the layout, and packing them separately. Next, I would install the layout into the crate, and fill it to the top, utilizing whatever packing material you have, whether packing peanuts, bubble wrap, etc to cushion the layout inside the crate. Screw the crate to the layout framework. Use lots of screws. Ridiculous overkill is the name of the game here. After the crate is constructed, put a lid and bottom on it, and paint all 6 sides with a water-resistant primer and paint. I moved a layout across the country several years ago, using this method, and not even the contract mover's nonsense damaged the layout. Trust me, they are not careful. You have to realize that the movers don't care if they damage your stuff. They get paid either way. Especially with a military-contracted moving company. IF, after delivery, items get damaged, you need to fill out the claim forms (IIRC, within 70 days) when you arrive at your new duty station, and (the important part) keep the item, until the claim has been paid. That could be a couple of years; it's not a quick process.
At any rate, this company merely packs, and picks up your goods. Then another contractor will pack them into a seagoing shipping container, and transports them to the port where it will be loaded on a container ship. And so on, until the moving company delivers your stuff in Germany. As you can see, there are many hands that can potentially mishandle your shipment, and you must prepare your layout for anything that comes its way.

My son just got back from Iraq and settled down in Georgia, when he heard that he’s probably going to be moving to Washington. I don’t know when, but sounds like you might be gone by then.

My step-son in Portland is interested. Will it fit in a car trunk?

it should, it is roughly 2' x 4'. it has a fiddle yard too, but I am detaching it. I have someone locally from on of the other forums that is intrersted in it, I'll let you know if he dosn't take it.

We're going to miss you here in the Pacific Northwest. In my club we're still talking about the kitbashed steamers you brought to Chehalis in October.
