Were these ever produced as just analog and if so how would one tell if they are not DCC ready? All the literature I can find on these locomotives indicate that they are DCC ready. I know of someone who is trying to code one but he cannot get the decoder to program on his DCC controller. He claims that it only works on the number 10 for analog engines, and that all of his other Bachmann DCC engines (12 of them) were no problem to reassign. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Disclaimer: I'm not DCC savvy, but have offered to poise the question to the forum in his behalf.

DCC Ready only means that the engine is able to be fitted with a decoder without substantial modification - typically it will be fitted with an NMRA plug. It will not have a decoder in it from the factory.

Thanks, Mike, for your answer. Apparently that's what the problem is - no decoder installed.
