I am looking for an N&W LL/Walthers 2-8-8-2 with DCC/Sound. Has anyone seen one lying around for a good price or do I need to wait for the next run to come out? Thanks.
For N&W I would bet you will need to wait till the next batch, which should be with-in the month. We have a Virginian left at the shop I work at but N&W were sold out the day of the release. Unfortunately, this next batch went up in price by a few bucks so keep that in mind also. I am still looking for a PRR unit which I was dumb enough to let mine go to a customer that begged me for it, then Walthers doesn't re-run the PRR's.
Can't help you with a N&W but I've got a AT&SF #1792 (NIB) 2-8-8-2 I'm willing to sell for a reasonable price. ...Tom
Tom - sent you a PM So, I've been able to find alot of Virginian's sitting on a shelf for pretty good prices (clearance less than $200). Guess that road didn't sell as well as the others. Anyways, does anyone know if the 1st run shells can be swapped on the newer mechanisms? I have an N&W from the 1st run. Was thinking of a shell swap here.
The next run is listed on the Walthers site as due out next month. ATSF, NW, and UP are included. I can't wait! I missed the last run. Dave
In the UK, they still have some of these engines: http://www.modeljunction.info/estore/index.php?cPath=26_103_105
I think that Hophobby has one for $229 - with sound. 920-90109 Y3 2-8-8-2 w/Sound and DCC Virginian #740 (N Scale) - WAL920-90109 Jim
When I talked to Trainworld in NY he offered me a Virginian on clearance for $199.99 and another place I talked to in Florida had one for $189.99 (don't remember the name but he was near Pensacola). Both sound and DCC. Anybody tried swapping shells between the 1st and 2nd runs yet?
You can't go wrong buying from TopHobbyTrains. They are not a deep discounter but every thing I have bought from them has been satisfactory. I don't know the answer to swapping the shells. I do know the boiler top and the cab of the new ones can be removed separately. But I have not removed either from the old model. They look to be the same. And swapping tender shells is usually not a problem. Ben
Jeff, from what I have seen with my two, the shells should be interchangeable. They are mounted the same and come apart the same way also, so I don't see a problem swapping them. -Mike
Place a Wanted ad on Trainboard's Trainstore Marketplace - someone might have one they don't want any more.
