I have not heard of this company before. This is a fantastically detailed Canadian FP7. The have a wide vision caboose, too. This H0 scale is called True North Locomotives.

There are also N scale items. I saw their advertisement in the NMRA Scale rails magazine for this month.

Has anyone else heard of this company?

Ummm....Flash? Did you wake up in a strange room this morning?

    :tb-biggrin:

Rapido has been in production for at least two years, advertizes heavily in MR and other periodicals, and sells via all the normal retailers on the web that would have, in turn, placed the Rapido products in their announcements, advanced orders, sales, etc.

I have two or three of their smooth-siders for CP (intended for the Sunset Selkirk if it ever flies), some CPR box cars from "True North", and a CPR caboose. They are a wee bit pricey, but they sure are nice, properly weighted, properly distributed, and roll like nobody's business.

I just wonder. He advertise more or less in every number of MR and MRC!
The N scale passengers cars are expected during this year.
About HO , the company ads said "the best underbody" of the world.
I don't follow Ho, so I never noted the cars but have very good reputation.
    Cheers

Thanks for the info Crandel, I can verify that they have been in business for quite some time now, and I've read nothing but good comments as Cranel stated. I have three of the new N Scale cars on pre order, can't wait until they come in.

GEE! Where have YOU been? I had Arnold- Rapido engines from N scale days in the 1970s. They are a very old company. BTW their old 4-6-2 was my best running piece in those days. It was nothing to look at but it was great in its day. Odd-d

This is the same company as Arnold-Rapido? I have certainly heard of them! Also, the "True North" company threw me off a little.

I didn't get the impression that it's the same company, but I am relatively new to the hobby, and I would have to acknowledge that the name is rather unique....so how would it show up again if the original fell by the way? I have no answer. But the company that I now know as Rapido and True North, if they are indeed one and the same (not sure about that, either) did not appear in any magazines until sometime in early 2006 or so. Maybe I just entered the hobby when they were many months in between production runs of anything?

    Curious.

It is not the same company as Arnold - Rapido. As you may have guessed they are a Canadian company. I have heard that every aspect of their product is outstanding.

Rapido is not Arnold-Rapido and yes True North is a product line of Rapido, not a separate company.

They mainly produce Canadian prototypes in HO, but also offer the Turbotrain and they will produce the Osgood-Bradley coaches. They will enter the N scale market with some nice coaches in many North American roadnames. Check their website and you will fall in love with their beautifull products.

I recieve the Rapido newsletter and it is one of the best e-letters I have ever seen: a lot of interesting prototype information, good updates about their projects, an interesting look inside the industry and production of railroad models, and all is written in a personal manner.

Thanks guys for the positive comments.

I named the company after CN's Rapido which was, when introduced in 1965, the fastest regularly-scheduled passenger train in North America. The name was used on CN and VIA passengers trains in southern Ontario and Quebec until 1986. When I incorporated in 2004 the trademark was available, so we now own the trademark. I actually got the OK from VIA's head office as I didn't want to take the name if they planned to use it again.

We do occasionally get requests for parts from 40-year-old steam engines. As I am an HO modeller, I didn't even think of Arnold Rapido when I named the company.

The True North Locomotives line was started earlier this year when I announced the CN FP9A in HO scale. The "True North" line is specifically for Canadian-prototype diesels. We have others planned.

Now that Bill Schneider has come on board, one of the things he wants to do is reduce the number of product line names that we have to avoid confusion. This thread is proof that he has the right idea. So we will be quietly reducing the excess nomenclature over the next year or two and stick to a couple of well-know brands like the Super Continental Line.

We actually just received the first N scale passenger cars on Friday. I'll be sending out a newsletter on Monday or Tuesday.

    Best regards,

    Jason
