Could someone please give the "normal" consists. There is a Vancouver to Kamloops consist. Then the train splits with part going to Banff and the other part going to Jasper. What is the makeup of all 3 trains? Do they add or drop cars as demand fluctuates? I have seen these but didn't pay much attention to the specific cars. There are also some "Observation" cars in the consist that I don't see in the model list. I would like the Calgary consist.
Already ordered mine with Dan..any of you who do any CP should be reserving this also....Saskatchewan cars are in also....
Pete The consist changes every month, saw one this year of only 6 cars, the smallest I have seen in the Calgary area. 2 years ago it came in with 3 extra cars(private?) from sources/reasons unknown.
The train leaves Vancouver with two engines, two baggage cars, and 6 - 10 coaches. The number of coaches on the trains depends on ticket sales. At Kamloops the engines and baggage cars split. The split of the coaches is usually even, but will depend on the number of seats sold to Banff vs Jasper. It is possible to have 6 going to Jasper and 4 to Banff, and the reverse on the next trip. The observation cars (unique to Rocky Mountaineer) would cost $50 - $100 to make. No doubt we and Rocky Mountaineer Vacations (RMV) will be watching with great interest to the level of response from our fellow N Scalers. The more complete trains we can show their is demand for, the higher the probability, we and RMV can be convinced to invest money in tooling for the unique dome cars. When we met with the RMV official, they didn't have plans to do the RMV train in N Scale. They are interested in seeing just how many customers out there are interested. The officials we met with need to show their superiors a strong list of confirmed orders. I like most N Scalers are usually disapointed when major items only come out in HO Scale, and usually all we ever here about are the complaints. Well here is your chance to show just how much demand there is for Canadian Protoype Passenger Equipment. We also have many customers from oversea's who collect items to remind them of their travels by train when in Canada. And we have had a number of those customers placing orders in the last 24 hours. So basically the ball is the customers hands. If you have any further questions and would like to disuss it with us, please feel free to call either myself or Steve (Grayone). Thanks Dan Huberman Pacific Western Rail
Not too thrilled with the idea of ordering without knowing the prices. TBD just doesn't work. Other than that, I am very interested.
The problem with modeling the Rocky Mountaineer is the constantly changing equipment and paint schemes. Check the RM website for the current paint scheme, blue and gold not red, white and blue (I don't like it). Also note the switch from GP40-2 to GP40-2W. Atlas does not make a 2W model. I think the RM will remain a line that has to be custom modeled. I'll post a pic of my consist when I can access the images at home.
Bill, Funny but it is the new paint scheme that I like. Being new to model railroading, I got the feeling this will be my first custom models .. Looking forward to your pics
There's a 3 year hiatus between the OP and the latest comments. I get PWRS's email newletters and haven't heard a thing about this lately...
The routine for RM is different this year from previous years. I'm always on the look out for the RM when railfanning (check my RM video album http://www.vimeo.com/album/101192) This year there are on occasion two RM consists on the Van-Kamloops section. Tuesday when I was in the Canyons I checked the line up with one of the guys at North Bend. Sure enough there was the eastbound "Journey through the Clouds" consist waiting for clearance. 2 engines and 20 cars. In the morning that same day I caught the Banff train east of Kamloops with three engines! Nope, I didn't count the cars. I'll be at Kamloops good and early come Monday morning to see and find out what's what. Used to be the three trains would leave in this order out of Kamloops a) RM to Banff/Calgary b) RM to Van c) RM to Jasper But Monday (13th) the Eastbound Banff train and the Westbound Jasper train will pass each other - on opposite sides of the river - somewhere around Boston Bar/North Bend. There will be more video.
Folks - just a note, I have not been associated with the company in over two years and cannot speak for anything except the green "Saskatchewan Grain Cars" of which I have 14.
