Painted Area Wholesale Tire I painted this one "Santa Fe Cat-whisker Yellow" as I needed some light pastel color for the structure. I had written "front" or "top" on the white styrene plastic building pieces using ordinary graphite pencil. It was very hard to obscure or paint over this pencil writing with the light colored paint. Lesson learned there. Probably learned again. I need to erase these marks before I start painting.
Nearly done with my AB6, I just need to figure out what I'm going to do about a pilot coupler. Yah, pretty sloppy and inaccurate under close inspection, but oh well. Thank goodness for the three foot rule (or six... or eight... or whatever it takes) -Mark
Hi Russ - Nice looking car, can't wait to see it painted!. How did you do the roof hatches and A/C duct? -Justin
Thanks. The AC ducting is 3/8" Evergreen styrene that I split out along with Squadron white putty. The roof hatche on the right is built up from styrene sheet and Archer 3D decals. I will probably make up an RTV mold to be able to cast copies so I don't have to do this for each car I build like this. The center hatch is a cast copy of an older master I made years ago. It is really too small and not as accurate so I am recreating a new one of those too. This is a photo of some of the older castings.
Russell, nice work. The steam ejector A/C is what really makes the Santa Fe chair. I can see the need to duplicate the hatches for other cars; if you make any extras, I'd be interested in buying some.... Otto
MArk, IF hat's SLOPPY under 3 feet, then , well, I hope to get sloppy really soon. Seriously nice work.
Thanks, Philip. I think a little weathering will go a long way towards hiding my various "oopses". Fortunately for me, by the late 50's / early 60's the prototypes weren't exactly pristine either -Mark
Thanks, I will probably sell as many hatches as I did decals for these cars. I finally finished the Sunset Limited French Quarter Lounge I have been working on.
Cleaned up the sideframe castings for the previously built Class A locos and started applying them and found an issue with the SW-9 mechanism pick-ups coming loose. Fixed that problem for now but in the process checked the 70 tonner mechanism fit to my scratchbuilt ones. Has a danged good fit with minimal mods needed and the sideframes will fit better than on the SW chassis. So on my future shopping list will be two more 70 tonners to supply mechanisms for the older ones. Decided to go all black on the RLW body rather than the two color scheme. Cab interior will stay the light green. Picture also show the SW mechanism (silver) and the 70 tonner mechanism (black). Truck wheel spacing is more closer on the 70 Tonner and is just a better mechanism over all. Bmann did all right with this one.
Area Wholesale Tire Complete Finished Area Wholesale Tire Except for the weathering. I need to complete some scenery before adding the weathering.
I finally finished my AB6. And let me tell you, daring to post pictures of my modeling in the same thread as Russel Straw and John Moore is freakin' daunting! Cheers, -Mark
Mark, it turned out great. I would say you can post photos with the best of them. It is way beyond some of the kit bashes I have done where it is a unique prototype and I am happy that my model can not be mistaken for anything other than what I was aiming at, even if it is nowhere near exact. Again, well done.
I agree , you work and photos are second to none , now lets see it in the consist with the other units !!! Randy
Thanks, Randy. Unfortunately, I only have the one E7A. But I guess that means I could at least do the Colorado Springs consist -Mark
