    Yreka Western #21

Currently on my workbench...I am currently building a model of Yreka Western's SW8 #21. I have removed part of the original hood and replaced with a correct dynamic brake section. Just have some filling and sanding to do, than it will soon be time for paint! I have also posted a photo of the real 21 for comparison.

Good Afternoon from Northeast Ohio, attached are a few pictures of cars that I have just completed. [IMG] I found that I had started building this IMRC PS1 boxcar years ago and had painted it blue, I masked it off and painted the black panel, then lettered with Herald King Decals. [IMG] I accidently purchased this decal, so I researched what car it went on and luckily it was an available IMRC 40' PS1 with 6' Door, the decal is from Oddballs. [IMG] I had to do this car, it was the only 60' Auto Parts car owned by the Chicago Great Western, and served a GM Plant in Flint Michigan. The car is an IMRC PS 60' Auto Parts Car. the so-called Fisher Body Car. the Lettering was applied using Oddballs Decals. Thanks for looking! Rick

Very true. I like to do that, too. I do combine features that I like and put them on a single car instead of making a car exactly like the photo.

I have less time, our granddaughter ( under 2 years) is often with us in the afternoon.
But I have started with buildings for my module Salina. I will take pictures and report.

I just finished an easy paint mixer that did not cost much to make. I got the idea from a tool thread on some web site that I can no longer find. 3/4" white PVC pipe and fittings for the rollers. The caps are only pressed on in case I need to tighten the bolts. Angle brackets for the brackets. 1/4" bolts and screws to fasten it to a 1X6. Easy, cheap, quick. And I already have several drills.

Here's a of the right end showing the drive mechanism. The drive belt is a rubber band from a bunch of broccoli in the grocery store. I chuck the long bolt in a drill and run it at low speed.

I would have posted the images direct but it seems that my computer doesn't want to.

Ah the memories you bring back. I spent two summers(1950-19501) around Nakina, NC cropping, handing and hanging sticks of tobacco - only the girls were allowed to string tobacco on the sticks and I was not allowed to crop for long - couldn't tell ripe from green.

    Newly Finished Models

Good morning from Northeast Ohio! The below are cars that I have just recently finished. [IMG] [IMG] These two cars are old Front Range Kits which I built. The first is lettered for the Wabash Railroad using Champ Decals. The second is an NW box car which was an old Wabash car in the same class as the first car. They were put in the B-75 class by the NW with a 3 added to the Wabash Car Number. [IMG] This is an FGE RBL which was the lease the DT&I took over from the PC. The last six cars in the lease were the centered door version rather than the offset side. They received the centered door version for the last 7 cars in the lease as there were not enough offset door cars (we need a model of the offset door car). Thanks for looking Rick

Maybe this counts for "What's on the Workbench...." I spent the afternoon taking pictures of about 50 HO structures that I am liquidating.

After about 50 years of HO, I have finally made the move to prepare to sell a lot of my HO scale stuff. However, I will NOT be doing it on eBay. I'm going to try to sell it through my Facebook page. Since FB is becoming such a powerful way to reach thousands of friends, I'm thinking to myself...why not give it a try. Unlike eBay, it doesn't cost anything to put pictures of what I have to sell in my photo album on Facebook. True, it doesn't have the search functions like eBay and I won't have the exposure; however, I can leave my items posted for as long as I want to. If and when someone comes along that is interested, they can submit an offer via email and I can take it or leave it. I'm hoping that I can even run it like a silent auction.

Tell me what you think. I've posted a few items for sale (too many to post here), and I think you should be able to look at them by clicking on the Facebook link in my signature. If not, I just wasted a lot of time and effort; but I'm not out any money! I haven't set any prices yet. Look through the "For Sale" album and tell me what you think. As you look at each individual picture, you can leave comments.

You can also look at my N scale layout(s). Hint, hint! I never thought I would switch to N scale, but now looking at my HO stuff it really does look Horribly Oversized. lol

Here's an Atlas geep I've been weathering with brushed acrylics. Unweathered left side and the weathered right side.
I used mixes of black, raw umber and off-white "Linen" [Jo Sonjas background colour]
with a final very light dusting of grey pastel.

To do the pilots I gave them a quick coat of raw umber + black, then a mix of red oxide + bright yellow, with a little of the other mix thrown in. Then some dark grey went back onto the hoses.
I painted over the stark white handrails with some Linen.
Closeup shows quite a few bits that I'll have to retouch!

    before...

Nice job on making that look proper. I don't see any areas that need touch up though. Looks as it should to me well used.

Fresh out of the paint shop, an Atlas SD24 that used to be AT&SF 979 but now is Mercury Creek Mining Co.'s number 502 - numbered in homage to the iconic CB&Q unit.

There's still a bit of touching up and weathering to do, to make look more like something used to haul hoppers full of ore and other filthy stuff from the mine to wherever needed.

Mercury Creek Mining has trackage rights over the Possum Lake RR from the mine all the way through Possum Lake, Port Asbestos (one drop-off point) and to the yard and junction with the CN main line at Kimberly.

They're also the reason why Mercury Creek earned its name. :plaugh:

Triple 7, very nice. how did you do the lettering? Im thinking about doing an SD40-2 to match '1206'.

Currently, I'm trying to stuff one of these cameras:
2.4GHz Wireless Surveillance Camera Kit w/2-Channel Wireless Receiver & Two Wireless Color Cameras w/Built-in Microphone

In the nose of an Athearn BB F7 such that the camera looks out the lower headlight.

It almost fits. I had to shave off some of the camera casing and I'm probably going to have to cut the frame.

I tried removing the circuit board, but
1: the Microphone is mounted such that it takes up almost the same space and
2: the lens is mounted in the case, so it would take an awful lot of precision work to rig that mounting so it stayed in focus.

I'll also be swapping out the old el cheapo dummy trucks for the new standard of powered trucks with the gears removed.

Here are some of the cars that I finished last week!

This is an IMRC PS1 car that I started 15 years ago, I finally masked the sides of the car and painted the ends black. I applied the lettering using Mark Vaughn's decals.

This is an IMRC PS1 car that I did after receiving my Details Associates decals. The decals called for an Athearn can but my research revealed that all the double door cars were Pullman Standard cars.

I recently purchased an old Rail Model Journal for an article on prototype FGE RBL's, included in the magazine were a set of Microscale Decals and a detailed article on building GAEX boxcars. I varied from the article in that Branchline Models has released a GARX reefer that I did not install the refridgerator door but instead installed an 8' sliding door. You probably can't read the little placard but this car was leased to the Wabash. I have another set of the decals and will do a lease car to the PRR and SGS decals gave me a set to do a PC car after the lease expired and the PRR purchased the cars.

    Thanks for looking.

    Rick
