Russell Straw is on holiday this weekend, so I am starting the Weekend Photo Fun Thread this week.

I just weathered some of my passenger diesels for the January open house. My club is sponsoring their annual weekend train show in January and, as a part of that, they also have several layouts open.

The El Paso (westbound) Sunset has just left San Antonio Sunset Station and is pictured passing Lone Star Brewery as it heads for West Texas and the wide-open spaces. The lash up is PA, PB, F7B, and E7B (6009, 5912, 928, 5903). Seventeen cars today.

I made some progress Thanksgiving day on a project that has been a long time coming.
For 30 years, I have dreamed about a layout representing trains through Houston, including some going to staging representing unmodeled Galveston.
Back in 1990, In photographed the Texas Limited Tourist Train on the Galveston, Texas causeway.

I began thinking of Galveston as visible staging with some scenery, and then with a representation of the causeway, even if a minimal city scene. Around 1999, I built a computer 3D model of a huge layout which would have taken a 30 by 40 foot building for N scale, with this computer rendering of a causeway.

Then I decided on using my 11x11 foot space entirely for a Galveston terminal layout.
Causeway section benchwork with Atlas viaduct sections---

The section will is a high rollaway for moving when railroad not operating, and duckunder when running.

On Thanksgiving Day 2009, I bolted on the painted background…

And set up a grain train heading across the causeway to the port.

Hopefully I can move the section into the train room over Christmas holidays.

Very nice imagery, Grampy. I note the scuffed and flaked forward edge of the fueling station's cement pad with much of the yellow paint worn away. Very nice detail!!!

Here is my image, somewhat varied from the photo contest underway here.

Not technically a model, but fun nonetheless. Wife and sister-in-law dragged me to the Mall of America today. Spent most of the time in the park with my nieces, and managed to find a train. Ended the day with a light rail trip downtown to watch the Holidazzle parade.

    Hi Wolfgang,

Nice switching action! Question: Are the switch stands connected to the switch underneath the benchwork?

No, my switch stands have only a connection to the throw bar. Look at my How To Switch stands.
