To get things going this week I have an oldie from the files. One year our club set up our NTRAK layout in a poorly lit room. We made due with some low voltage halogen pancake lights mounded on the end of bent conduit attached to the back of the modules.
Around the Bend The SD50 is a brass Hallmark engine that is about 20 years old. I re-motored it and all the brass engines with Kato motors soon after I got them. But since DCC it has not seen action for nearly 15 years. Thanks to my hero, Lee, and his expert install talent it runs like a swiss watch and is whisper quite. I am waiting with great anticipation for the final two installs, an SD45 and SD45T Rio Grand beauty.
Been a while since I had anything to contribute. Suddenly got cracking on doing work for my layout. Besides working on scenery for the layout, I have been working on building my large GE Erie Lackawanna fleet. This is a U36C I kitbashed. N-scale of course. I am currently working on U33C's and of course, U34Ch's. Can't have too many EL U-boats. Some of the features are BLMA grab irons, sinclair antenna, cab armrests, cab sunshades, various miscellaneous brass wire grab irons, coupler cut levers, BLMA MU hoses and brake pipe, windshield wipers, wheelslip cables and speed recorder cable on trucks and the custom built horn. I painted the black weatherstripping around the windows so it would stand out too. I like the way it turned out and can't wait to do the others. Scott Lupia
Gall durn it. All my diesels will never look the same to me now. That's a lot of modeling to mount all that detail. Looks great.
PRR #780 L1-s Mikado on the upper level of the "original" JJJ&E. This "Mikado" was kit bashed using a GHQ pewter kit. The town of San Marino is in the background.
GN 365C & GN 365A Pulling a test train into the LT Loop. Just got these guys out of storage, decodered and programmed.
Great pictures, thank you. I'm busy with turnout building, therefore no layout pic. But I've uploaded the next video. Morning shift at Westport Terminal RR - part V [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQl_yYeb0ZQ"]YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.[/nomedia] Wolfgang
Things are busy in the yard. The shay hooks up to some empties while the boxcab prepares to move some hoppers over to the RIP track.
Great photos, everybody. For this week's contribution from me..... I updated my web site this week - added some more links to 'Modeling Lessons Learned' (i.e. the Kato F unit 'toothpick technique' and Short Shank Unimate Installation for close coupling... and the Bachmann N scale Big Dome easy enhancements): http://home.comcast.net/~j.sing/#Modeling_Tips ======== And also provide links to two clinics that I was asked to do by the local NMRA in 2009: Presentation - "John Sing's Worldwide Model Railroad Tour" - given at NMRA Pacific Coast Region convention April 2009 (Acrobat Reader, 3.2 woo woo woo): http://home.comcast.net/~atsf_arizona/John_Sings_Worldwide_Proto_Model_RR_Tour_v80.pdf ------ Presentation - "John Sing's Photographing Railroad Models" - given at NMRA Coast Division Meet in December 2009 (Acrobat Reader, 1.3 woo woo woo) http://home.comcast.net/~atsf_arizona/John_Sings_Photographing_Railroad_Models_John_Sing_v23.pdf -------------- =============== Happy Holidays to all.
Some tricks for N-scale ships. Here are winches made of tiny grommets, and bits of square and circular tubing. I build the grommet parts, the drums, along a thin stick, glue the rest to the assembly, then cut them off the stick one by one. Also circled are my boom holders, old Rapido trucks trimmed to just the center parts. Every winch needs a winch stand, which is just a square rod at this scale. The fire hose center bottom is a folded strip of paper with a grommet glued to an end, with the holder a brass U-tube. Most of the ventilators and lockers are scraps of plastic or bent tubing.
