It's been awhile since I have posted anything about my last layout http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=105999&highlight=paper+mill. I decided to start a new layout for a few different reasons but the biggest was the fact I wasn't happy with the trackplan. It took me nearly a year to decide that so here we are. I salvaged whatever track I could and scraped the rest. My new layout will be a shelf style design. I still have the same amount of room 9'x12' but have decided that designing, building, and finishing an entire room layout might be a bit much with 3 little boys. The new layout is 18" deep by 10' long with a small staging shelf. I have been busy building new bench work ,installing fascia, and cutting the foam base over the holidays. I have a track plan, just putting the finishing touchs on it now. Will post it when it's complete thanks
I still have the same amount of room 9'x12' but have decided that designing, building, and finishing an entire room layout might be a bit much with 3 little boys. I feel you there I have one little two and a half year old boy so I decided to build a small 4'X7' layout instead of a 4'X14' L shape layout and he still rips off my telephone poles of the layout now and then that's why I didn't wire them cause that for me would be a disaster waiting to happen. Very nice progress on your layout so far nice bench work.
If you have a track plan , it would be good fun to see that, along with update photos of progress. Boxcab E50
I also have a similar sized area for the layout I'm trying to create. Only 2 1/2 feet of the 8 foot i have is in a little cubby under some stairs... looking forward to your updates..
Here's a current track plan, it might change a bit still, but this is the basic thing. I'm not the best with planning software so I did this quick with paint. Let me know what you guys think. thanks
Its been awhile since I last posted on the layout. I have since finished the foam base. I used some thin coats of drywall compound to fill all the joints. I used an expandable type to avoid cracking in the future. I also painted the foam a nice earth colour for future scenery. I have started to lay roadbase and hope to have some pics later on this week of that. I have decided on modeling a CN yard and industrial area. The yard is not based on anything current, a free lance type. The 3rd pic is the turntable and roundhouse area. It will house 6 stalls. Thanks for looking Ben
