cutom build for Daniel Baechthold/Switzerland. We saw already a CN and CP SD40-2, her's another of the Canadians. This time no "fancy" kitbash with a different body shape, it's this time focus on prototypical details like the 5-chime horn on the roof, 4 additional front lights, main head lights in the short hood with additional LED, bell on cab front, "ample" lights above number boards and last but not least the round single rear light instead of the standard double unit. In addition the "BLMA-treatment", custom decals and paint job plus light weathering as per prototype photo.
Another beauty Gerd; I looked into making changes to my SD40-2 but I found several pictures of SD40-2s in the CP roster with the paint scheme used on the first of the engines MTL decorated with Headlights above the windshield. One I have a pictures of is 5424 but it is UP yellow and red with CP Rail and CP plus Road Number in Red. Have not found a picture of 5420 in any paint scheme yet. Not sure if all the SD40-2 came from but it looks like SOO and UP which explains the mix of American Standard and Canadian Standard headlight layout. Plus to change mine I would have to do a repaint on the nose as the CP is too closely spaced to use the existing lettering with a head light change. The 6600 series built in 1980 all have upper headlights plus 786. The 6600 all have winterization hatches and extended cab side windows.
Gerd, when I saw it, I knew it was Daniel. There arent too many BC moldelers. The soot and grime on top of the engine looks great.
Garth take a look here for 5420, http://www.mountainrailway.com/Roster Archive/CP 5400/CP 5420.htm. It is an ex-KCS unit. The initial scheme is rather interesting also. ~Paul
Gerd, you are really a master of design! Not only the paint scheme, but also all those extras like additional ditch lights and bell...If I didn't know it better, I couldn't believe it's 1:220! I'm looking forward to see that little beauty running in z scale british columbia biggrin: Garth, I found some interesting pictures of 5420 here: Can you say EMD??? 7 sd 40-2s and one Geep 9 can all be seen in this shot. In the 2008 paint scheme the loco matches the one from MTL biggrin: Daniel
I guess I will have to renumber 5420 to prototypical 6611 or 6614. Only the horn has to move on 6614 and 6611 both horn and beacon have to move the rest is correct after adding break wheel to fireman's side of low nose. I did not find any 6600's in the paint scheme of 5415. the Majority of CP's SD40-2 have their headlights on the low hood and a bell where the headlights are located on the MTL product. Also many of the SD40-2 of CP have a very different pilot plow shape to them.
Go Gerd go, How do you turn out these master's so fast. I still love your GP60 best. Hope you were serious when you said you would consider casting the next one you built.
Too late for the Olympic Games... ...is this British Columbia loco. Another SD40-2 in BCOL colours. This a time a very "un-canadien" loco w/o snowplows, w/o frost-safe horn installation and w/o "ample-lights" above the numberboards. Loco features modified coupler, closed front skirt, bell on left side, all BLMA details, MU-cabel, break wheel, additional headlights in short hood and custom paint job, decals and weathering after ptototype pic.
Gerd, ....and you call that 'no fancy kitbash'.... Great detailing! How can you still find time to post these pictiures, with all this great work.
