Let's not forget 2 Movies of Illinois Fame: A League Of Their Own and Flags Of Our Fathers. These movies are not directly train related but feature the most famous and last surviving and operating Burlington Route Zephyr, The Nebraska Zephyr. In League of Their Own you clearly see the actual set on the rail bridge.

Now Flags of our Fathers has a special deal. For this movie Burlington Northern-1 & Burlington Northern-2 Hauled Illinois Railway Museums Erie-Lackawana Coaches to LA's Union Station for filming. 9911A Silver Pilot pulled her Nebraska Zephyr train to LA as well. 9911A Pulled the Heavyweight Coaches and the Nebraska Zephyr for the movie. Flags of Fathers was a weak movie with the stars going to the Illinois Railway Museum's equipment.

Runaway train had more of a mythological aspect to it.

The meaning of the end can be hard to comprehend.

I liked watching that F unit on Silver Streak crash thru the station. I think the road name was Amrail, I don't know how real any of it was, espeically the crash looked model like.

Good picks but can someone tell me one about a ghost train? Here is a bit of the plot. An older man ( hes a charecter actor been in a ton of stuff but I cant remember his name) who missed a train when he was a little boy.Well he tells his grandson that he still has the ticket and he is going to ride this train on such and such a date coming up. Well everyone thinks hes nuts and they sedate him on that night and his sons wife is all about putting the old nut in the home for good. Well cue vibrating house ( which was built on the old right of way) far off whistle and then KABLOOM! Right through the wall where the old man had warned " Anything from this wall out you may want to move" The engine stops in the kitchen and the head end crew swipes some food and a 6 pack of beer as the old man is saying his goodbyes.I have only seen it once and it was just the middle to end part of the movie. So if someone can help me out with a name it would be great!

I have seen this movie or show from begining to end a looooong time ago. The house was actually built where there use to be tracks. There is a water tower for the old steam engines not that far away from the house. The grandfather does talk about the train coming to get him althought there is no more tracks. I remember the train crashing thru the front of the house going thru the living room and ending up in the kitchen and they wake up Granpa, he says his goodbyes and then gets on only to never be seen again.

I think the plot was that Granpa was dying, but the train was going to pick him up and he was never coming back. You know instead of dying and going to heaven story.

It did only air one time from what I remember back in the 80's, but for some reason I don't think it was a regular movie. I'm thinking what we saw was a from a TV show called "Tales from the Crypt" or something like that. I'm not sure myself now, it's been too long.

I definately remember watching the show however, I liked it and forgot about it until you just now mentioned it.

I can't remember for sure myself, sorry.

Breakheart Pass is another good train movie. Charles Bronson plays an undercover agent who gets caught up in a conspiracy where a train supposedly loaded with medical supplies is carrying rifles to the indians. The theme music is great too. Lots of shots of the steam locomotive billowing plumes through the mountains and over tall trestles. Includes a scene where a section of the train breaks loose, builds momentum downgrade and tumbles over a cliff.

I am almost positive that this is from the series "Amazing Stories"!
Great Show, and that was a great episode.

There was a short lame train movie on my cable company on demand menu a long time ago also but again can't seem to remmeber the title. From what I can remember it was a guy who had a train set but was somehow able to turn people into live train size people by making a a person in minature and somehow was able to transfer the life size person into his small train size person he made. Then they were stuck on a train that was awlays moving and no one could escape except one person and in the mean time the relative was looking for this missing person and they all figured out what was happening somehow. It's been way too long and it was sorta lame anyway.

Another vote for Rails and Ties. Yes it is depressing, but a good film and great railroady theme and some action.

For some really good SP Daylight action, you can't go wrong with "Tough Guys." Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. Its a light hearted movie that I really like.

Harry and Archie are released from prison ready to collect their Social Security. How could they get into trouble at their age? Let's count the ways; A parole officer who is a famous criminal groupie, Dead end where people don't know they are dealing with dangerous, though older, criminals, a hit man who can barely see, but who still has an outstanding contract on them. Does anyone still rob trains?

Hi all, first time posting here and thought this was an interesting thread. I know it's a bit of an older one. I have a couple of ideas the first is Switchback wtih Danny Glover and Dennis Quad, and the second is Stand By Me. Then there is Blazing Saddles and as far as television in the 60's and 70's - Wild Wild West. Bridge on the River Kwai is a classic, and then Gene Hackman's Narrow Margin. Then as a Canadian there is "The National Dream" and "The Last Spike" mini-series from the 70's about the building of the CPR across Canada.

Some were all about trains, some had trains in them, some were great and others not so great. Good read.
