I've had one since Christmas collecting dust in a box under the layout. It's been a wild year year so far, most of it spent on the road. So next week I may give it a go. So how is that magnetic board working out from Micro Mark Phil ?
Bob, that magnetic board works well. It does what two hands alone can't. Waterfront Willy's is still on the radar but I have so much work to do on the layout it's not in the immediate future. But I do plan on building it one day. Look forward to seeing your progress pictures. It is just a great looking model
I’m about 80% completed on my “Waterfront Willy’s” and hope to be “finished” by this weekend. I’m building it concurrently with “Wicked Wanda’s”. Should be able to post some photos next Monday. Or. . .I could suffer with a bout of A.D.D. and complete them sometime in October.
“Waterfront Willy’s” with additions. I extended the wharves to either side with embedded rails and added the Brown hoist crane. The Pig Barge is a kit from a company whose name escapes me.
The barge is indeed from “Seaport Model Works” and the Brown hoist crane is from “Model Tech Studios”.
Time to revive this thread. I decided to buy the kit and build it before I configue the corner where it will be and where the water fearture will be. So, I got the kit and opened it and looked around. The instructions absolutely suck...at least for me since I am not very expereinced with these laser kits. lt's not the build that I think looks so complicated it's that they don't label the parts all that well and it's a little (OK a lot) confusing. So gonna probably need some guidance after I read the lousy instructions about 10 times. Be on alert Tracy!
Please pass along notes on what you encounter. I'm building a module especially to feature this kit in a scene... The WW kit is next on my items to order list. Boxcab E50
Will do brother Boxcab. Upon further review maybe the directions aren't all that bad after all. Might help if I read them through completely before going off the deep end. As has been noted in this thread the kit is pretty straight forward, or at least it seems to be. We'll see.
Help with parts identification!!!! OK, ready to go. Have read and re-read the instructions several times. Have done a test with some Primer Gray and a nice Old Yeller Bragdon weathering material...but before starting I have a couple of questions about identifying where a few pieces of the puzzle go or at minimum what they are for...(seems it's a secret and have looked on the instructions and they just aren't labeled.) See these two pictures... Can Tracy or somebody identify what these things are for labeled A & B? Same with the A, B and C on this picture. No telling where these things are suppose to go or exactly what they are! Thanks for the help guys!
In the first photo, the pieces labeled A are optional bases for the floating docks. The B pieces are toe railings for the docks. In the second photo, A and B are window shutters, C are deck railings, all optional. On my structure, I used the railings on the platform that I built for the rear stairway and door.
Thanks Tracy. So all that stuff is "optional". I thought that may be the situation but the instructions just aren't' clear. Still wouldn't be sure where the toe railings for the docks would go. Are they optional too for the optional floating docks? Really I don't think building this model is all that complicated. I just wish mfgs would labels the pieces in the drawings so you have an idea where things might go.
Technically everything in the box is optional... A toe rail is nothing more than a raised lip around the edge of a dock or boat deck to prevent a person's feet from slipping over the edge when the surface is wet. It's nothing more than a plank fastened across the surface of the dock, around the outside perimeter. Not every dock has one, so it's up to you.
