Check this out. Is he selling vaporware or is he rolling the dice and hoping it ships in a week. He wrote this carefully crafted sentence at the bottom of the description "I may not have this particular model on hand and will need to order it from InterMountain so shipping may take up to a week." I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he has the good word from IMR! InterMountain N 79005 Southern Pacific AC-12 Locomotive - eBay (item 220551994495 end time Feb-12-10 10:45:49 PST)
It looks like the seller is from Longmomt, Colorado where Intermountain is located. It may be someone with connections. Not sure just a guess. George
On his Ebay Store, the only line he sells is InterMountain. Furthermore all of the listings I clicked on have the same terminology. "I may not have this particular model on hand and will need to order it from InterMountain so shipping may take up to a week." It looks like he does not stock anything and obtains the items as they are ordered. 100% positive feedback for the last 12 months. I just wonder how he gets items that were released in 2008. Does InterMountain stock old releases? Gary
Many E-tailers don't stock much of their items they sell. That is one of the huge benifits with etailing, you dont have to have huge inventories, that may or may not sell, and you only sell, what people actually buy. As long as he has good feedback, and known to be a good seller, and he does have a direct link to his suppliers, there's nothing wrong with that.
I looked at the other AC12's he has listed on his online store. He has qty 4 pt# 79001, qty 5 pt#79002, qty 3 pt#79003, qty 3 pt# 79004, and qty 10 pt#79005. Looks like those of us who pre-ordered might be in AC heaven in about a week!
I spoke to Intermountain last week at Springfield. They were ready to ship the AC-12s. Neals N Gauging Trains had production units at the show for sale. It was my understanding that these were shipped to him specifically for the show. Rich
I saw a production version in Springfield. They had a scale speed detector. The engine started at about 4 MPH and was smooth and stall free at 10 MPH. It is a damn fine engine.
There is a seller on ebay named Huskerland and I am fairly certain that he stocks very little, if anything. Right now, he has 2585 listings and if you look at his completed sales, he sells less than 1 item per 100 listings. Also, almost all of his prices are full MSRP. I cannot understand now anyone can make any money using this model. Am I missing something?
I have bought old stock from Ed. If I recall, I sent InterMountain an e-mail asking if they had any of XXXX in the warehouse, and I heard from Ed, saying they indeed had what I was requesting. He gave me a good discounted price.
I don't know, but something doesn't seem right about this.... :tb-err: For instance: read what BLW has posted regarding this particular road number. SP AC-12 Cab Forward #4292 ITEM # IN-79005 - Tender Lettering - this # on "stand-by" reserve http://www.buynscale.com/InterMountain%20Cab%20Forward.htm :tb-confused::tb-wacky:
I spoke with Pete @ BLW when I reserved mine and by that point his allotment of 79005's were all accounted for.
Your point being that other dealers are hoping to get enough to cover their reservations, while this guy through his apparent connections with IM seems to have no problem getting them, and has them before anyone else so can get the jump on non pre-order purchases? Does seem a little bit not fair.
these could be pre-ordered models that haven't been paid for by the dealer. they will be sold thru different channels. after all, intermountain needs to sell their models. so what is fair in a business world ?
