I am used to rejection. I have learned to live with it throughout my adolescent and adult life.

It started with hearing a reply on the telephone to a request for a date of "I am doing my hair on Saturday night, sorry" to "If you were the last man on earth, I would give it some thought".

I just received my January/February issue of N Scale Magazine in the mail, yesterday. Has everone else in the world received their issue, already? Am I now the "Last Man on Earth"? Should I call up all of those women now, who previously spurned me?

Doubtful, everyone knows the mailman reads the playboys first, then takes the quizes in the girl magazines. railroading mags wouldn't even register on their radar.

I have not received mine as yet. They've been way behind for a long time. Recently I'd e-mailed. Received back what appeared to essentially be a form letter, filled with excuses. From my contacts with other fellow N scalers, they're going to lose more subscribers.....

    [IMG]

And advertisers. It's pretty hard to justify spending money for a full page ad for a product that is already sold out by the time the magazine comes out.

I find it rather ironic that the man that is making it his personal crusade (Bob Hundman) to criticize UP's business practices, has his own business teetering on the brink of financial downfall and delivers its product 2 months late

Boxcab- This month was a little thin. I am going to pull out an old one and count the ad pages.

    Mark-

Another thing you could do, is check the December issues for past years. Seems like that's when they post up press and subscription info. Look at their declining numbers....... From 2004, to 2005, dropped 7%.

Another issue of Bob's harangue is too much. Once was more than enough.

Also, look through their pages listing editors names, etc. Over the years, there have been some very, very impressive names coming and going. Very well known, knowledgable of both the business and hobby. Yet not good enough for Bob.

Something is radically wrong in Mukilteo. And if they recover, it's going take years of efforts which I do not see them capable.

    :(

Received my issue this afternoon. Had been banged around in the mail. Some torn pages, etc.

Content isn't really that bad. An item or two of some interest.

    Oh well.

You guys probably haven't been buying Hundman magazines for very long; very late delivery happens enough with any of them. Probably causes more distress in the advertisers than the buyers.

Lucky is when your mailman has left a cookie in your magazine bookmarking your favorite article. Then as you are standing by the mailbox, a truck carrying glassware crashes into another truck carrying milk . . .

You can always offer to buy Hundman Publishing to get your magazine on time [IMG] ; the company's been for sale for a while. If the owner was Bill Gates there wouldn't be delays but you likely would not have found anything interesting in the mags.

Haven't found that much in it to really interest me and a number of the how to articles seemed to be coming up short on the info needed, then my LHS stopped carrying it and I never missed it. But then they stopped carrying the competition and dang near every other mag too for awhile. I for one don't usually subscribe since I hate to be paying for a mag that has no interest in it for me. I buy based on content of interest to me. N Scale Railroading and Tall Timber Shortlines are about the only magazines that I can consistently find something of interest, and if I do break down and susbscribe it will be those mags.

I was one of those who subscribed when NSR was announced. Months before the first issue. Know, or have known many of those involved with that publication. It used to come quite promptly. Was rarely late. Until last year.

Am also an ex- long time buyer of CTC Board.

I received my N-Scale on March 1, exactly two months late. The mag gets later and later and is losing advertisers and subscribers. Editorial content is going downhill along with the advertising. My final issue is the March-April edition, which will probably arrive in early May (I will not renew my subscription). The current issue of 80 pages had only 11 pages of paid advertising; 69 pages had none except for non-revenue ads promoting Hundman books. As a retired editor/publisher, I can say that such a ratio doesn't make N-Scale financially viable. I'm building a small layout and when I read the index of the current issue I noticed two articles about small layouts. This really excited me until I read the articles; they left me wanting more. Fortunately, our scale has another magazine that looks like it will stay with us, N Scale Railroading.

Let's face reality - an odd request in our fantasy world - it might very well be "time" to effect a merger of efforts and by doing so achieve a MONTHLY N SCALE FOCUSED PUBLICATION.

Now the chore - what other N scale magazine would become party to the merger. I'd like to tell you, but . . .
