This: http://www.imrcmodels.com/n/html/68809.htm plus this: http://www.portwallawalla.com/accomp/images/2006/slide1.jpg equals many dollars comming out of my pocket. Guess I'm going to have to make my grain port only semi perminamt so I can switch out from grain port to frozen products division for variation. Also going to have to buy some (can't believe I'm saying this) Union Pacific power. This one's going to be hard to 'splain to the wifeal unit. Brian
Those cars have special meaning to me because when I first visited the prototype area I am modeling, there was a mixed freight parked in the siding on the law with a long string of these cars right where I was taking pics. Most of my reference photos I am using have one or more of those cars in the background. Now I can recreate the scene! BTW, the Extreme Trains episode where they rode the produce express from Washington to New York was one of the best. They did a good job of showing the operations inside that loading facility. Jamie
The cars are different, but they'll work. Those cars they use for the Reefer train are the new Trinity reefers. The IM cars are rebuilt PFE cars. But you see them by the boat loads here in the San Joaquin at pretty much every packing house. There was a good article on the reefer service in the last Trains mag, BTW... Now you just need some UP GEVOs or SD70Ace's.. :tb-biggrin:
I don't know; a chain of N Scale Models - 68811 pulled by http://www.katousa.com/N/SD70ACe/SP.jpg would look mighty sweet.
Guess I just showed everyone that I'm no rivet counter eh? :tb-confused:Oops. Since the Trinity reefers have never been produced (least I think they've never been produced) these will do for me. I've always wanted a string of something like these to match the ones I've seen many times at Wallula Jct. Brian
A string of reefers, regardless of make, is cool.. There's 50+ of them in strings in East Bakersfield now. Lots of graffitti as well. If you wanted to, that would be seriously cool to model...
Trinity Reefers If you want Trinity Reefers I would wait a bit, I think there will be some hitting the market sooner than you may think.
Wow, that's an interesting tease. I want both the rebuilds that IM is announcing and the Trinity model, so I'm happy. I started to make my own rebuild from an Athearn/MDC car but stalled out with a poor paint job: [The reefer unit slides in after painting.] It will be nice to have these RTR.
So can anybody tell me where the blue NRE Cold Train cars usually run? They look so cool and I want some but I need to rationalize them in somewhere.
Well none of the Etailers have them as yet; so maybe they pulled them back and we'll just get the fixed version:tb-biggrin:
