Bachmann now has a track cleaning car (a tank car). Came out in Oct or Nov, 2009. Priced at $35.00.

Has DRY cleaning pad, uses no fluids.

Anyone have any experience with this car?

    Track Cleaner

I bought one about two weeks ago and it seems to do a fair job.

Does anyone have a comparison of this cleaning car to the powered version from Atlas?

Doubt it. Most comparisons online are for popular stuff or were paid for by the manufacturer. MOW equipment never gets its due, either here or on the 1:1 scale roads.

I use a car similar to this, only it is homemade. The key thing I find is weight. My car weighs a little over 7 ozs. May seem extreme, but it helps two ways.

    1. The car never jumps the track if the cleaner hangs up on something.

    2. The weight helps the cleaning pad work.

So, if this one is around the usual 2-3 oz car weight, you will need to add weight IMHO.

Mine does a good job of keeping things clean and getting rid of some built up oxidation. Heavy oxidation still requires some Goo Gone to do the trick. With this type of car, it works best if it is always part of the consist. As mine is heavy, it is always directly behind the locomotive. It derails on the other end of the train.
