What would be a fitting road number for a bachmann 2-8-0 for the SP. Most had the sandbox in front of the bell, but a few had the arrangement like the Bachmann's I'm in need of a few road numbers with this layout as well as if they had vandy or oil converted square tenders. Thanks.
I looked there with no luck. The ones he has pics of don't resemble the bachmann very close. I remember seeing a couple in the Monte Vista book about SP's 2-8-0s. I just don't have a copy or a hobby shop close by to get one.
Monte Vista The below link is from a simple Google search for monte vista book sp. http://www.sphts.org/pmcclosky/spbooks.html Use the data for a Amazon.com book search of Google search using the title of the desired SP Monte Vista book in the link I provided. Rich
If you can, get a look at Dunscomb's "A Century Of Southern Pacific Steam Locomotives". There are several classes of ex-El Paso & Southwestern 2-8-0's that bear a passable resemblance to Bachmann's 2-8-0's. These were in classes C-26 thru C-29 inclusive. Road numbers were 3440-3444 (C-26), 3445-3449 (C-27), 3450-3469 (C-28). Most of the C-28's were modified with the cylinders bushed down an inch becoming class C-29 except for #'s 3454, 3456, 3460, 3461, 3463 and 3469. SP played "musical tenders", so the Bachmann medium Vanderbilt or the original tender (converted to oil) would be OK to use. The rectangular tender (actually a USRA) bears a close resemblance to some of the EP&SW tenders. Check here http://homepage.mac.com/rbowdidge/railroad/dcc.html for some pics of a modified Bachmann 2-8-0 using the original tender with added oil bunker (page down a bit). As you can see, Bob's engine is numbered 3444, a class C-26 engine. You also might want to visit Bob's website to check out what he's done with modeling SP's Vasona Branch in the early 30's. Andre
Bachmann's 2-8-0 is a consolidated, There were two which ran under T & N.O flag but with SP on tender # 395/396 there is one of them still in Baytown, Tex in a park.
