I have an Atlas/Kato locomotive I picked up about a year ago. It has been running great. The other day it started running erratic so I figured it needed the wheels cleaned. While cleaning the wheels I discovered that on the front truck...both the 'Wheel Wipers' where missing !! I have never had this loco apart so it must have been that way when I got it.

Anyways...does anyone have a couple of 'Atlas Wheel Wipers' they could part with at a decent price ? I could buy em online but the shipping would cost more then the parts !!! I figure a postage stamp would be cheaper...LOL.

The 'wheel wipers' I need can be seen in the bottom right of the diagram on the Atlas exploded view at:

All I have are Kato parts. Although their "Wheel Wipers" are similar they are not quite the same. I just tried to stick some on an Atlas GP 35 truck, no dice. Maybe a local hobby shop can order them so you don't have to pay shipping.

Atlas is usually pretty fast at getting parts orders out, if they are in stock. Just be prepared to pay an arm and leg for shipping, i order a couple scale speed motors and paid $12.00 shipping while the stamp said $1.90.

Yea...thats what I am afraid of. I'll end up paying 5.00+ shipping for parts that are only 1.10 :tb-wacky:

Is shipping not a flat fee? Or is it based on the amount of merchanised purchased? Getting ready to order in a week for the first time, some spare parts to replace missing/broken parts.

I'm not sure how Atlas figures there shipping, but as far as I'm concerned $12.00 to ship a small 3"X4" box is highway robbery.

Usually, the charge is for handling as well as shipping, which is intended to cover at least some of the cost of maintaining the inventory of parts and pay the people who fill the orders. It would take an accountant can figure out whether handling charges are fair or not. I'm not an accountant, but my guess is that Atlas doesn't make money on the parts business.

One of the reasons for flat fee shipping and handling charges is to encourage people to bundle their orders, which saves Atlas some money.
