I am in Saint Louis for two weeks, Where does one go to find quality N Scale in this city? I tried a search here, and did not find much, then spent most of the day hitting as many LHS in the city that I could. Wow found TONS of Lionel Shops selling three rail stuff, but found little N and most of it was Bachman/Life like stock. So Saint Louis where can I find a good store for some N Scale? Also any railfaning tips, I already know about the bridge south of the Arch, and I went up near Granite City and Dupo, IL. Any where else that comes to mind? Brad
St. Louis Union Station-- the gorgeous headhouse building (now a hotel), not so much the trainshed amusement mall... (just my taste..) National Museum of Transport out in the suburbs.
Mark Twain Hobbies is good. There is not much for N scalers around here, that's why I shop by sites posted here. If you're here May 8th you can come down the the Amtrak Station in Kirkwood, Mo. They will be celebrating "National Train Day" from 9am until 2pm. There will be a display from the Mississippi Valley N-Scalers Ntrak club. The Kirkwood Station is a beautiful stone building once owned by the Missouri Pacific. Hope to see you there. Polski I'll be in a Frisco shirt and a MoPac hat
I also stop in at Mark Twain from time to time. Don't forget about the Museum of Transport. The UP mainline runs along the south end of the museum property. Steam, F3 demonstrator, passenger cars, UP DD40AX...several cool things to see: http://transportmuseumassociation.org
Thanks for the heads up on Mark Twain, I meant to go there but ran out of time. I hit the Museum last time I was here, JAN 2010. I enjoyed my visit until I left and was driving away and noticed the SP GS series War Baby paint that was tucked away in a back corner that was not available to view. maybe next time. I'll try and make it to Kirkwood on the 8th, I am thinking about doing a round trip to KC on the 9th. Brad
Another good place for N scale is the Train Haus, in Warrenton MO. It is a bit of a drive from St Louis but well worth it.
Welcome to STL. N Scale? Shops: Red Board Hobbies in Belleville, IL K-10's Hobby Shop in Maryville, IL Mark Twain Hobby in St. Charles, MO (Probably the largest selection in the area) Schaefer's Hobby, St. Louis, MO (fairly small collection) Train Haus in Warrenton, MO (They have a decent collection, but an hour drive from downtown minimum) Railfan: Shoot me a private message and I can give you a few tips on the area, or show you around. Shows: While MVNS is making a presense, we are not setting up modules, there was some sort of mix up with Kirkwood on this... May 15/16 is a show in Highland, IL http://mvns.railfan.net/othersho.htm This group shows up at our fall Kirkwood show, so we're going out there to play. I was just at Trainhaus last week and was really disappointed. I was expecting to find stock levels like they were a few years ago. The high point was looking at the N-scale layout in the shop. Mark Twain has much more N than Trainhaus at the moment.
Just 119 miles southeast of St. Louis in Marion, Il. is "Chuck's Depot". He has a very large selection of HO and N. It would be well worth the drive.
