Don't know about you guys, but I have broken my fair share of N scale handrails. I usually tried to fix them with CA which works until you hit the handrail and it breaks again. Then I tried some fancy glue process from an online company. Not much luck there either. I figured it was just one of those things unitl the other day when I sent a brand new LL C424 to the concrete floor. I don't know how, but it escaped with only the rear handrails being broken. Tried to order new ones, no such luck. Here they are face down: Even the little tab that slides into the walkway (under the little triangular part) was broken off. I got thinking and grabbed my can of liquid electrical tape and used it as glue to re-attach the rails to the loco. It worked! A really strong bond that is flexible and removable by simply peeling it off! You can see the repaired upright in this photo: I am pleased for the first try. I think once I paint the rail yellow, you'll never tell. After a day or two, I found that the stuff has "memory". I bent the formally broken handrails pretty severely and when I let go they slowly went back to their original position.
All right! I have some of that stuff in 5 different colors. I almost tried that one day, but changed my mind at the last minute. Thanks for sharing
That is one of the best remedies I've every seen, since everyone ends up with a couple broken handrails eventually. Now, if only it could fill in the gaps of missing handrails that have broken off and gotten lost, ha-ha.
Thanks so much for sharing that one - now I have no excuse for not fixing those handrails I have stashed away
You fool! You coulda bought dozens of cans of the stuff, printed new labels, and sold it at 1000% markup at a train show! Instead, you share the secret for free! ;-)
