Just found this site. This guy has some ncredible track tools and a wheel cleaner that just has to be in my tool box. :thumbs_up:The address is as follows: RRR TOOLS N TOOLS Some of you may know of this site but I am posting it for those who don't,:tb-biggrin: Check it out. You won't believe what you see!!!cool:
Bookmarked. Looks like some great stuff here. I am curious to know if anyone else come across any other useful loco wheel cleaners or if anyone has any review comments on the one from RRR?
I have not seen those tools anywhere else. They look interesting, especially the turnout throwbar jig.
JMO...but...for $12.00 I can buy 1200 "Bunn" coffee filters and a couple bottles of 90% alcohol and clean more locomotive wheels then I have time left on earth...:tb-wink: *Just lay the filter across the rails...wet with a small splash of alcohol...hang onto the locomotive...crank up the throttle and run the front truck onto the filter. Move the loco back and forth. Move the filter over just a bit when it gets dark black lines on it from the gunk off the wheels. Put the filter behind the locomotive and repeat the procedure for the other truck. Each filter will clean about a dozen locomotives easily. Simple and cost effective. Coffee filters dont tear or throw off fibers that can get in the trucks, gears, etc. ...like paper towels can. Just dont forget and use the gunked up filters to make coffee !!! Ewwwwwwwwwwww :tb-wacky: .
I do like the idea of the "Nscale Metal Wheel Set Gauge" though. At $7.00...thats in my price range....hmmmmm. .
He also creates user defined dimensions if you have a specific track spacing in mind, for instance. He is a one man show in the corner of his room but does good work in my opinion. The freemoN group I am a member of ordered a bunch of track spacing tools with a centerline mark for centering double track modules.
Rodney's Railroad Tools has been around for quite awhile. Make some quality stuff. The INDIANA RAILWAY has been using RRR tools for years.
I use them too! Have been for several years, great stuff. The 3 in 1 tool is a great heat sink, no more melted ties unless you try real hard!
