In Wheeling, nope, I can't helpya there. However, right across the river in Ohio, there's a good train store. TK Hobby Shop. 500 Hall Street, Bridgeport, OH. (877) 633-4779.

    Worth a stop.

When in Wheeling try M.B. woo woo woo. But seriously, outside of the store in Bridgeport, OH [which I am not familar with] the nearest hobby store that I know that has N Gauge stuff is Esther's Hobby in Millvale, PA [outside (North) of Pittsburgh]. They have an internet presence. There is also Dodd's Hobby in Carrollton, OH but again, I am not familiar with them.

Oh boy if I could go to M.B. woo woo woo, I’d have to buy another suitcase to bring everything back home.

I just got back from Bridgeport. I left my directions at the hotel and couldn’t remember where it was, so we ate dinner and came back to the hotel. I’m staying here until Sunday then heading back to Pittsburgh. I hope TK Hobby Shop is open on Saturday because I’m going to sneak back over there tomorrow with the directions in hand.

I’m going to go to Esther's on Tuesday if they are open. The last I was here I drove to Esther's Hobby and they were closed. When I finally caught them open I discovered that they are only opened on certain days of the week

Well I got to go, I'm meeting friends at 8:30.

I live a few miles outside of Wheeling. Besides T&K Hobby, there are 2 that I would recommend. They are:

Deluxe Toys and Hobby in Martin's Ferry,Ohio-just across the river in Ohio. Phone-740-633-2875.

Patrick's Trains-Phone 304-232-0714. This hobby shop is located in Wheeling.

These 3 hobby shops are within 5 miles of each other.

Oh wow I wish I had seen this sooner. I’m leaving WV tomorrow (Sunday) and probably will not be able to CK the other places out. I had a chance to drive around Wheeling and Bridgeport today. I kind of like it here. I think I might put it on my list as a place to retire to.

I went to T&K Hobby today and they had some C55 for sale. I would have bought all of it but I could not fit it in my suitcase. I all ready had to be frisked and probed just flying to Pittsburgh and I don’t want any problems going home.

    JohnnyB,

Let me suggest that you copy the stores and phones numbers for the next time you visit. I live a very close to Oglebay, so if you want, you can PM me and we can meet at the resort.

Did you get to see the B&O train station in town? It is now a community college, but the exterior is fully restored as train station it once was. I hope you make it to Esther's in Millvale. It is not often that you find an entire store of N Scale stuff.

Hey thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. It was a little hard getting around this weekend because of all the things going on. They had graduation on Friday and then some sort of running event on Saturday with lanes blocked off causing all lot of traffic.

My cousin and his wife go there every January. I don’t know what they do there in January. They mentioned an O scale train show, but I don’t know if that is an annual event or not.

Well check out was at eleven so I’m back in Pittsburgh now. I’m actually surprised that there isn't more model train stores here, because there are a lot of people here that model trains.

I’ve meet a few people here that model O scale in their basement along with my brother-in-law. I’d love to have a basement like everyone has here, because I could have a huge layout with everything I’ve ever dreamed of. They just don’t have basements in southern Calif.

    JohnnyB,

The races you referred to are run on Friday night and Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend. You are right, Wheeling really gets packed for these very popular races. I like to help out at these races, and people come from many states to run in them.

There is a train show at Oglebay in January, but it is a small show. By any chance, did you see the O Scale layout at Oglebay? It is up year round. It is quite impressive and always fun to see these trains. If you really would like to see a spectacular O scale layout, check out the Carnegie Science Center down by Heinz Field, (home of the Steelers) and next to the new casino. I think the layout is 3000 square feet. You won't want to leave. If you do plan to go, please call first to make sure the trains are running. I know that they do close the train exhibit to change part of the layout occasionally. There is a WW II sub that you can tour, too. The Science Center might be open on Memorial Day.

My cousin told me that there was a train layout, but when I was looking on line for more info on exactly where it was I came across the train show and I thought he might have been talking about that, so I didn’t see it. I did enjoy the layout at T&K Hobby though.

My cousin took me to the Carnegie Science Center last year when I was here and I did see that layout. He has a year round pass there. We are having a surprise birthday party for my cousin this Memorial Day so I will be tied up all day.
