No SP's. What are they thinking?

Glad I sold my extra F40's a couple months ago.

I hope the trucks are the same. I need some to get my older locomotive running again.

Atlas doesn't seem to have a problem selling eastern roadnames.
I have looked for years for a set of Kato EL PAs don't tell me they are evey where I know better!
You better check BLW and get your facts straight because the one set of PRR PAs he had left sold out!
I also see BLW has UP NW2s in stock guess Kato will stop making UP now!
IMO Kato is only out to make a killing on models that they think sell the most, leaving everyone else out. Good business decisions, I think not because even if they do finally make a few eastern roads people are pissed and will not buy any Kato locos period.

Yep, the trucks will be the same or will fit the old units. These will have that new DCC ready chassis that they put in the SD40 a few years back, thats the only difference.

EASTERN ROAD NAMES...They do to sell, just at a slower rate. Why? Because it takes us western modelers lots of time to put nice western road paint jobs on them.:mcute::mbiggrin::mcute::mbiggrin:

C'mon Kato, do some Conrail or PRR!!! We're gonna need something to strip by next July.

Well, I hope they put Yellow railings on the SD-45 Santa Fe Ylw & Blu War Bonnet

models. The first issues had stupid Black railings which made no sense.

No SP, and probably no undecs either. Hmph. :tb-err:

For the best, I suppose. I don't need any more things eating into my track budget...

I'd hoped I had left the ¤¤¤¤¤y sniping at Kato back on the Atlas forum ...... evidently not :tb-sad:
Personally, I'm pleased that Kato have decided to update and re-release the SD45 - I've been unashamedly begging them for a while now!. OK, I would have loved to see Wisconsin Central in this first release - I could use about 8! But for now DRGW will do nicely, and I'm sure more roads will come soon enough.

Maybe I can find someone in the UK who can do a better re-paint than I .....

    Cheers,

    Kev

This feels strange... I have nothing to complain about.

If Kato chooses to run eastern roads that would be fine with me. Let's not 'kick'em to curb' just yet... the next release could be Erie, Susquehanna, Reading etc... (of course... I don't know if those roads had any SD45's ;) ) http://www.trainweb.org/jaydeet/sd45.htm

If Kato re-runs the same scheme of D&RGW SD45 in a year... great... times 2! I'll buy more of them. I'm ecstatic about the re-tooled re-release of these models.

We really should be happy that Kato is back into the six axle 1960' to 1980' era locomotive 'ball game'.

Perhaps in a few months they'll announce the re-tooled U30C and C30-7. While these are not ones I'd be interested in... at least Kato is working on improving their older models.

Who knows... maybe they'll come up with a totally new diesel from this era... How about a U boat... a U25C or U28C!

I could say I am so angry because Kato isn't making Alco S- or T- series switchers and are instead re-running SD45s, but that would be silly.

One of my modeling endeavors has been Willamette & Pacific / Portland & Western. Besides a few releases of woodchip cars from DeLuxe there has been little to nothing in this road RTR, so I've had repainting to do, compounded by the fact that a lot of the decals I "need" are not available and have to be custom-made.

I am glad that Kato has re-released the SD45 and if they can keep it going maybe we'll see more releases of this and other locomotives in the future, and I just love that DRGW scheme. I may have to get one even though it's nowhere near anything that I really "need" for my modeling endeavors.

Wait, so we're going to use a set of locos that were sitting for years as reasoning versus the UP NW2 that came out in the last nine months?

    Logic, meet window.

That's just the way those delrin railings came back then.

    Seriously...

I completely forgot about the Wis Central units. We had five or six of them back when they came out in the hobby shop. They never sold before the shop closed down three years later. I'm still kicking myself for no picking up a pair. How nice those would look with a Athearn F45! Yum!

A couple of questions regarding the Kato announcements:

    a) Can a DRGW fan enlighten me on when the large speed lettering scheme appeared on these units? From the photos I've seen, I believe that they were originally delivered with a smaller "Rio Grande" marking on the flanks.

    b) What is the history on the "step down" Amtrak coach? At first I thought they were finally adding the Superliner crew dormitory car, but unfortunately that isn't the case. Hopefully they'll fill that gap someday as well.

You want a set of EL PA's, they are in both the local train shops here in the Sacramento area.

Sorry, but I am not on the BLW site every 10 minutes of the day. Last time I was there, they had both PRR and NYC. If they sold so be it, but they were there a couple of weeks ago when I was looking at BLW.

If you are so upset with Kato, why don't you just stay away from threads like this instead of being so venomous all of the time. There is more than enough negativity in the world, we do not need it here too.

When Amtrak just had Superliner Is 1978/9 though 1994, there was no Superliner that had the transition capability (going from double to single level and vice versa) . The Santa Fe El Capitan cars did have this capability and Amtrak used those until they received their order of Superliner IIs which included the Transition Sleeper. The El Capitan in Amtrak paint is a Coach Dorm and is accurate with Phase II and III Superliner trains (within the dates listed above). I also hope they eventually fill the Transition Sleeper gap, but I have already kitbashed two (which means that since I put a lot of time into those projects, they definitely will at some point (-;)

Does this mean Kato listens to modelers' requests?
Although I have 3 SD45's from the first release I don't think I can resist getting the Kodachrome and the D&RGW. I am sure there will be releases for SP's and the Eastern roads in the later months.
    Cheers,

    Ok; "blunt time"..........

Hands up those of you who think Kato gives a flyin fadoo about ANY road name....? Any takers.....?

Kato could care less where geographically a road name is... if the "Putzoid and Pitiful" RR sold, they'd plaster it on everything they mold.... which brings me to the point...

Kato is a "for profit" company; they are a Japan based firm; they produce for their domestic market first; the Asian market second and the North American/rest of the world market third.....They make what their extensive market research says will move - and move quickly.....

So; If the PRR/PC/Conrail/EL/ whoever modelers of the world feel slighted; "get over it". Kato owes you, nor I, anything. They are a "for profit" company who's market research led them to believe that your road name would not maximize profitability. Period. They don't hate you; they just don't think your favorite road name will maximize their profits.

Be happy the SD 45 is back; buy one, work hard and strip it and "model" - after all; it's called "model railroading" for a reason.....

I can't understand model railroaders who cry about the lack of a model for years; get the model announced and within nanoseconds; wine about their road name not being done..... the model's here; yep; it's hard to strip; so suck it up and do it. Make your SD 45 special; custom paint and decal it.

I'm a CPR modeler; and as such I don't have a huge selection of accurate RTR stuff; I'm used to making/modifying/painting/decaling/kitbashing/detailing..... my own... and I like it. If you wonder where my opinion comes from; now you know.

And; lest you think I forgot the hue and cry for an undec SD 45; "why would Kato do that" is my first reaction. Kato is the leader at multiple paint scheme releases.... I suspect your eastern roads are coming.............just like the 4th, 5th, 6th and heaven knows how many iterations of the PRR/PC/Amtrak GG1's we'll have to put up with.... hey; wait a minute; isn't the PRR an eastern road ?

Thanks for answering my question. You also successfully woke up the dormant area of my brain where I had the term "transition sleeper" stored but couldn't for the life of me retrieve it. We really need Kato to add that car to their later superliner versions. I have a nice set of Phase IV cars, compiled from various Kato releases, however without a transition sleeper and a reasonable baggage car I simply do not have a full trainset. :tb-mad:
