Ok, I got to looking at my old pictures. I realized that I have changed quite a bit over the last 4 years. So I decided to start a thread showing the progress of my layout from the very begining to today. As I can't call it the end. As you will see it keeps evolving. I think many modelers think they have to get it all done overnight. As you will see some of my earlier pictures are kinda embarassing by my standards today. But I was proud at the time and I think all the advise from people helped. Here is what makes this fun, the only thing that has stayed the same on my layout is the track and jorger controllers with gaugemasters. Everything, and I mean everything has been changed, painted, moved, redone, repaved, etc... over the last 4 years. Here is the begining. MT track ballasted. I was always told the most important thing is good trackwork, because if trains don't run well nothing else matters. I agree with that 100%!
More trees, more kits, more moving buildings around. This is what it looks like today. I got a kick out of going over the progression the last 4 years and I hope by veiwing this you can see that anything and everything can be changed on a layout. And I am quite certain more facelifts will be comming.
This is exactly the name of the game. There is always something to improve, and always a detail to add, or change. Yes, it's evolution. Thanks for sharing.
Nice Joe. I can see you tearing out the 195mm and putting in some 220mm curves to get it ready for a Big Boy.
as i start my first n scale layout and first layout after an unsuccessful HO attempt 12 years ago, this is a great post. i will have to take photos to remember the stages. thanks for sharing.
Joe, Fantastic progress! And really good to see your improved skills too. This should encourage and inspire lots of folks! Thanks for sharing
Great work Joe! That's the way I like to model too, by keeping adding things, changing a few things, and generally making improvements over time. Keep up the great work!
Gosh, it's been that long already?! I remember every single one of these pic's! Keep on railroadin' Joe!! :teeth:
Thanks guys I appreciate the comments. John, I have some 220 track, and it is funny, I might be doing that next. However, I am more thinking a cab forward if the money is right this fall. My hope is people who read this will see first hand that the average guy can make things look good with time, patience, and the willingness to try things. Not on the drop of a dime, but after some thought and consideration. I guess I fall into the categorey of what can I do better...and see if I can.
