Over on the Model Railroader web page, there are some sneek peaks of NMRA announcements.... http://www.trains.com/mrr/default.aspx?c=a&id=4057 Bachmann 4-6-0 w/DCC Bachmann GP7 w/DCC under $100 retail Bachmann 70T w/DCC Bachmann Peter Witt Street car w/DCC ConCor retooled U-50 and Veranda BLMA ARMN Reefer WOT 70' Baggage Express car (in C&O, wooot!!!) WOT 6 wheel Heavyweight Pass Truck
Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll finally be able to have a couple of NP 4-6-0, and hopefully a good running Veranda to boot! Bill
Well I'll be a monkey's uncle! Looks like Con-Cor and Bachmann will be getting my hard earned money! (I never in a million years thought I'd be saying that. :bear-shocked: )
Bachpersonn is going to be getting piles of my money: Ten Wheeler seventy tonner US Prototype trolley B&O GP-7 Goodness!!!! They had two types of ten wheelers in HO, one with sixty three inch drivers, one with fifty two(?). I suspect that N will be getting only one, I wonder which one. I wonder if the B&O GP-7 will be the freight scheme or a torpedo boat. Atlas did both with the GP-9. Which will be SPECTRUM and which will be Standard Line? Still, good news.
Tony, I was asking myself the same thing about the ten wheeler. It looks like from the roadnames announced, it'll be the larger of the two. But that's just a guess right now. I am absolutely joyed that they are going to do it finally. I don't need but two but they are exactly what I do need. Can't wait to see them. Eric
Here is what they look like in HO. 52" Driver Version - (Ma & Pa prototype) 63" Driver Version - I am also figuring that they are doing the 63" driver version. Right now, any version is better than none. If they want to the the Ma & Pa later, I won't complain.
"They had two types of ten wheelers in HO, one with sixty three inch drivers, one with fifty two(?). I suspect that N will be getting only one, I wonder which one." The 52 in. driver model is a freight 4-6-0, the 63 in. driver model (which will be the one done in N, "Final Answer!!!) is a dual assignment locomotive, found in both freight and passenger service all over the country (not to say that every road had a 4-6-0 like this one but that was how they were typically used). There were even a couple of shortlines powered by 4-6-0s through their steam era. A great addition to N-scale!!! This and the new baggage - express coming from Wheels of Time!!!
Looks like I have to work more overtime. The 70 tonner will be interesting. I'd like to see pictures of the 4-6-0 but Bachmann's recent steam efforts leave me more optimistic. It will be interesting to see how the GP7 can compete with the Atlas version.
The 70 tonner (along with the previously released 44 tonner) eliminates a lot of my excuses for not starting the Washington & Old Dominion modular layout idea I've had rattling around in my head. That 10 Wheeler and the Peter Witt street car have a lot of possibilities, too.
Ten Wheeler is good, I can try to peice together the Feather River Express or Royal Gorge. The bigger issue is going to be the BLMA Trinity's I'm going to need at least 30!!!!:tb-err: So little money and so many things...
The Peter Witt trolleys I see look a lot like the 700 series cars used on the West Penn Railways. These were originally center entry cars built by the Cincinnati Car Co in 1910 and reconfigured in 1933 to one man operation by adding front entry doors. These cars were also known as "whalebellies" for the center lowered section where the doors were located.
10 Wheeler is the common name for a 4-6-0. Just like a Pacific is a 4-6-2, a Mikado or McArthur is a 2-8-2, a Mastadon is a 2-8-0, an American is a 4-4-0, etc. etc. Here is a link to the rest of the naming system. http://steamlocomotive.com/misc/wheels.shtml
I guess this means I can give up on my 70T scratchbuild once and for all :tb-frown: EDIT: And my ARMN reefer too...
Here she blows http://lh3.ggpht.com/_aKjYmQBQOVM/TECm5KjCvTI/AAAAAAAALXY/zLlmerXucIs/s576/bach%20n%204-6-0.JPG
They are also going to have operating knuckle couplers. DCC and operating couplers...very interesting.
