I was wonder, do they run freight through the Northeast corridor or is in only for electrified passenger trains? Vince
There are freights on the corridor, but they're definitely in the minority. A few samples: http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=330287&nseq=0 http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=268651&nseq=10 I believe these all operate under trackage rights, but I'm not really sure how that works.
There are daily freights on the NEC between Baltimore and DC (I commute this route). NS runs them at night, there is also a CSX coal train that runs up to Pope's Creek (via DC) that I seen in daylight fairly often
Cool. That opens up a lot of ideas for my layout. I've been wanting to run locomotives like the GG1,E60 and the HHP-8. BTW, do any of you think there could be a market for a new E60cp in N scale??? Vince
Every day during the mid afternoon, there is a freight going westbound through the Jamaica interchange on the LIRR. The diesels are NOT LIRR, so there must be a lease agreement.
One of the thought I had about diesel running in the NEC is that the exhaust me cause some kind of build up on the overhead wires. Which sould be why you would hardly see a diesel pulling a passenger train there. Vince
I think this is a non-issue. Most MARC (NEC) commuter trains (and there are a lot of them) run behind diesels. All Amtrak (NEC) trains are electric though. (speaking of Balt-DC NEC only).
