Sorry to seem so confused, but this is my first post and this site is SO comprehensive, I've no idea where to start, so here goes! (If the moderator needs to move this post to a more appropriate location, be my guest! lol )

I grew up in Flint, Michigan and developed a passion for the railroads serving the GM plants in town. My earliest recollections (some 60 years ago) were Pere Marquette steam switchers shuttling rail cars in and out of the various Chevrolet, Buick, Fisher Body, and AC Spark Plug plants. Later Grand Trunk Western entered the picture for several years and finally, by the time I left Flint, the C & O had pretty much taken over.

That said, my fascination with railroads still remains and since I now live in Oregon, my focus has now turned to the many narrow gauge railroads that served the logging industry here for many years. I've become a narrow guage HO modeler and avid railroad photographer. (New stuff as well as old museum displays.)

That's all I guess. If someone on this forum shares my passion for this conglomeration of railroads and would like to correspond and/or share photos, I would be delighted to hear from you.

Hi Rusty - Welcome to TrainBoard. There are a lot of nice people here. Since you're interested in logging operations, as a first step, check out the logging operations group:

TrainBoard.com - Logging Operations Fans and Modelers

Keep us posted on your modeling efforts.

    Hi Rustytrax
Just an FYI from another guy that grew up in the Flint area. The GTW is alive and well (although there's a CN noodle in front of it ). There's not much left of the auto industry there however. I'm modeling the sub of the CN/GTW between Sarnia, Ont. and Flint with loads and empties in and out of the GM small truck plant that still operates in Flint. I attended Steamfest in Owosso last summer, and the Pere Marquette #1225 is alive and well. Just thought I'd give you a little "catch up" Gerry S.
