I was looking at railpic's and there seems to be a ton of soo loco's running. but the pickings seem small in N scale. only atlas has a sd60m in candy apple. Nothing in the red/white paint SOO post your soo
Well, here's a couple to whet your appetite. I've got a GP9 that I've been meaning to take some pics of as well. This is my kitbashed Bachmann Lt. Mountain. I had to move the headlight towards the top of the smokebox, make the angled numberboards, and then painted and decaled it. It's been weathered since these pics. At Trainfest last year:
I have been looking alot for the SD60 red and white with very little luck. I saw one on ebay but it went for almost $80. I will keep looking! dave
The SOO is a kind of "curiousity" of mine... I am slowly building a passenger consist; I've got two of the Walthers 70' baggage cars and a few other goodies.... The Model Power FP7A will have to do until the FP7A/F7B's come out from Intermountain late this year in SOO marron... I modified the MP unit to add the second headlight per the SOO prototypes.... If you weather her she looks ok......... When she runs freight she gets a "white-out" caboose..... Ironically; this very caboose works the Havelock, Ontario transfer for the CPR right now. My son and I have seen her at the yard 100's of times and I showed the model to the crews up there not long ago !
Along with the SOO baggage cars, I've bashed a couple of SOO heavyweights.... I run these with CPR equipment as the SOO - CPR Mountaineer.... I've got more equipment to build.
Pud, I have the Soo Line Passenger Car Equipment book should you need any drawings of any of their stuff. I bought it to start work on The Laker, but now I'm holding off to see home much of the MTL stuff will fill the holes first. Always loved your kitbashes.
Puddington, Your SOO caboose is perfect. I used to see these frequently running through Waukesha in pre-WC Ltd. days, and they were pretty rusty even then.
I LOVE the SOO, but hate the Atlas Sd60, nonetheless, here is mine (motor removed to run as a dummy): Here is a custom SD40-2 I did: and a weathering I did on a FVM boxcar: Pud, always love your work, my best everyone, Jan
SOO 50 lives in Havelock, Ontario (about 90 minutes northeast of Toronto) at the Havelock CPR yard. There is a beautiful, restored station there right beside the yard that is now a pub and grill; and I mean "right beside: - they park the trains within 10 feet of the patio) The branchline to a Nepaline mine some 20 kms away is not CTC controlled and they use a van for the daily shunts. The SOO van seems to have found a home.... This is my son at about the age of three looking up saying "Daddy; that thing is big......" This is early this summer............. She's a little worse for wear but it's nice to see a van earning it's keep in 2010. BTW; there are several CP Rail vans there too; one of which has become my now 7 year old's private tanning bed............hmmmmmmmmmmm "sitting on the coupler pocket.............."
Nice modelling, guys. You don't see Soo steam very often, particularly in N, and cab 50 does look suitably 'looked after' in the typical Soo fashion! As for th SD60's, I have custom painted standard cab 6005 in red/white which I did years before they were available RTR. No images at hand, though. Anyway, a few of mine; SD40-2's 774 and 764 Reverse angle Soo SD40-2 6314 Soo GP7 382 (custom painted and numbered without knowing Atlas did the same number!)
