I can't say they are new, but I just finished a duo of SD40-2s. ILSX 1341 I made for me and CP 5485 was made to sell.

    ILSX 1341 is a Kato Mid-Production SD40-2 and CP 5485 is a Kato Early SD40-2

I just pisked up my first modern loco at the Boeing show last weekend. Well not modern, but modern for what I model. This one already has a home in my display case!

Last weekend at the Denver GTE, I picked up a set of Kato PA-1/PB-1 loco's, in the D&RG Aspen Gold scheme. Here is a photo of my PA/PB set next to my son's old. old, old, Con-Cor/Kato PA/PB set that we picked up at a train show years ago. According to Spookshow's website, my son's PA/PB are from the 2nd run, which should be from the 1970's. The old engines run just as good as my new Kato engines, just a little noisier. I guess I have an excuse to get the CZ cars now!

This one was a long time coming.
I picked up the Seaboard body several years ago. I recently got a Walthers RS-2 chassis in need of some work. Some clean up, bearing mods and new headlights later, it was running.
I got a new sill from a Classic RS-3 and assembled the handrails. they are not fun. Next time I'll try a set of brass handrails. - they could not be harder.
It's sort of a foobie. I can't find the road number 1201. 1200 is an RS-3 and 1202 is an RS-11, but no 1201. Close enough for my level.
I looked at a lot of pictures and the stripping and safety paint on the rails was coming off every one I looked at except for picture of 1257 straight from the paint shop, so don't guess the paint not sticking well to the handrail material is a problem.

    Critter for the mill

The project this week was to get the Domtar Containerboard mill's 44 tonner ready for duty.

Over 30 years ago I went to the old Domtar mill in East Angus, Quebec and remember seeing a 44 tonner they had; actually, the most vivid memory was it's horn. It had this huge array of chimes and a huge old steam bell on it. I have no idea why; it simply switched the mill and I do not believe it ever hit the CPR mains but I vividly remember the sound it made.

I wish I'd photographed it but I was just a teenager accompanying my father to the mill on the way to a cottage trip so I didn't have a camera handy. Memory says it was all blue but I changed the livery slightly for my version; after all, we in BC are far more style oriented... [IMG]

Having researched mill switchers on the internet I found a number of early - mid 70 units had a beacon on the roof, al la the BN practice so we crowded the roof up with a number of appliances....custom decals and a lot of swearing... if you've tried removing Bachmann's handrails from a 44 tonner you'll understand.....

    Passing the paper machine buildings.

Now the mill has two power units,it's road switcher for interchange with the CPR, an RS 3 and a "critter" for switching....
