Some one asked me a while back about "Modern" power in 55n3 here is my findings on the D&RGW K-27 in Scale55:

The Bachmann On30 2-8-0 matches the K-27 plans in the June 1973 Model Railroader.

It has been done in Large Scale, I never realized that the Bachmann 2-8-0 was converted to a smaller scale K-27.

William D. Hemmeter/Dave Fletcher have done it in Large Scale. Their article can be found at:

    http://archive.mylargescale.com/articles/articles/k27/k27-01.asp

The On30 Bachmann 2-8-0's are going for $90 so you could have a 55n3 K-27 for under $200 easy.

    What is 55n3:

We will have more on "Modern" narrow gauge in the future.

Because of Baldwin catalog scaling, the On30 2-8-0 matches this loco in Scale55:

I always wondered why it was so hard to get 1/48 figures in the On30 cabs. I had to use what was essentially Scale55 people. The Bachmann On30 equipment always looked right on HO track as three foot except with 1/48 figures and vehicles. It makes great 55n3.

Scale55 has been a commerical scale in the UK since 1964.

Scale55 is 1/55 scale, coming from 5.5mm/ft. I chose Scale55 because there is no need for another letter scale. The use of a number is from the proto87 and proto48 nomenclature.

The original site is geared for the timeframe before the crash of "narrow gauge fever". We will be updating the website with more "modern" after the crash material.

Found a locomotive that matches the On30 2-8-0 in 55n3:

Most of the On30 Bachmann locomotives will work in 55n3 if you are modeling post 1900 narrow gauge. The ten-wheeler is too large. The Mogul with a few Bowser parts will make a great 55n3 2-8-0. All that needs is the domes lowered.
