Anyone else having problems contecting to Account Suspended All I keep getting is "This Account Has Been Suspended". Hope nothing is wrong. John
State of the Economy! Been hearing it for quite a long time! Woes in funds. Lack of contributions. Z points being distracting to the purpose. Haven't seen any jumps in any point lately, then again I haven't paid attention either. I don't know what it cost to keep/maintain a site like Z Central, but.... We have had discussions about ZCS' excitement in the beginning and the growing concerns of how it changed from those beginnings. I won't go there, except to say I miss that excitement. If it remained today I think ZCS would be larger than Yahoo's Z Scale and Trainboard's Z Scale combined!!! Is Z Central Station History now? I sure hope not! Give it a few days and we'll see what happens. Someone will post a message here or there about the issue. 1.375cents! Hobo Tim
Do not know who sponsored the site but it looks like they have not paid their hosting fee and so the ISP has pulled the plug. I am not too surprised after the ruckus earlier this summer that sort of takes the wind out one if you are the owner and loose your staff.
Jim, you old sea dog !! So good to see you pop your head up. I've been meaning to write to you. Still have the same email address? I also need your mailing address. My old address book got destroyed by a virus and I'm slowly rebuilding my address book. Been talking to Lee regarding the layout. Looking good!!!
What's really sad is, there are folks out there that are happy that it is down and hope it is down for good. Sad.
Why would anyone be happy the site is down? I can understand if you absolutely hate Z scale and anything that has to do with it, but I can't imaging any Z scaler who would be happy about this site, or any Z scale related site, being down. We need all the sites we can. Rob
Hi guys, Once again the problem for Z Central Station is its popularity, thus server load. Hundreds of visitors each day and a gargantuan collection of z scale photos taxes the server and sends it into suspense. I hope to have it resolved soon. -Brad
Thanks for the update Brad. I enjoy the site and look forward to seeing the thoughts and accomplishments of fellow Z scalers. Keep up the good work. John
Brad, could you tell us about how much it costs to maintain a site like ZCS? Is it a money matter? I know that some donate money towards it each month, but like any program, if the financial load were shared by all who visit the site, there should be enough money to finance it easily.. As an example, each year Jerry Lewis does his telethon for muscular dystrophy and raises about 30-40 million I believe. Many folks give good size sums while others chip in their dollar or two. Well, in the US, there are millions of folks who could certainly donate one dollar for each member in their family and if done so then easily over a hundred million could be raised without anyone sacrificing much. The saying goes....."Many hands make like work" The same principle could be applied here to raise operating funds if that is the issue with being suspended? Hopefully the server can find something with more capacity to alleviate the problem.
ZCS is back up and running!! I'm with Loren- Let us know the running costs and "They will come". Fred
I get way more out of the site than I do any magazine. I could do without a car or two and contribute something, if it will help. I do hope very very much that it is a small technical glitch that can be solved. I would never gotten back into Z scale if it were not for ZCS. I am sure there are others out there that feel the same way as I do.
Now Fred, you make it sound like you and I are going to foot the bill all alone, ) I'll run one mile and you run another and let's see if everyone else will run a mile and together we could run the entire marathon. Let's see if Brad lets us know the operating budget. Maybe it isn't a money matter, just a capacity issue?
