Hey Guys, Any one change out the deep flange wheel sets on the Atlas VO-1000-? I'm running Atlas C-55. If so-what was used? Thanks, Wolf
I didn't notice a change was needed. I ran mine on a recent modular set up that uses Atlas code 55 as a standard and there were 13 different members who had modules to run on. Mine ran as good as the Korean built untis can run.
Thanks Spidge, I've playing around with programming mine. I have a little programming track set up. Using code 55.I do notice the flanges hitting the spike heads. It's slight, but, noticable. Perhaps I should just not worry about it. Thanks again, Wolf
I have a number of these that run on C55 without any problem. Maybe you have a bad bunch with some flash on the wheels? I'd contact Atlas.
I have three of these motors, all with deep enough flanges to cause a little rumble as it bounces along the spike heads of my Atlas code 55 track. I haven't found a solution, but would also like to know if somebody has.
Short of getting new wheel sets from Atlas, you could contact Pat at Trainworx and see if he's still reducing flanges on loco wheels. He gets them down to run on code 40 track.
Hey Pete, Just checked-no flash. And the flanges definately hit the top of the spikes.I am wondering if the newer versions(of VO-1000) wheels would work. Thanks, Wolf
Hi Wolf, I forgot that I had reduced the spikes a bit due to old LL SD-7/9s, so perhaps they were reduced enough not to hit. I also wonder if maybe you got some track with the spikes larger than normal?
I was wondering that myself, but the picture of them on the atlas website looks like they have a pretty deep flange. I was going to check NWSL for replacement wheels once, but don't have a clue what I need.
Well, the track I have is a cpl of yrs old. I may try what Pete did- I'll make a small sanding block and run inbetween the rails. I don't think it would take much.I do think that is a viable solution.(Thanks Pete for the idea!). Have a great weekend guys! Wolf
I'm going to try and sand down the spike heads. but, keep us posted on your findings. Changing the wheels out would be a heck of alot easier. Thanks, Wolf
