Hallo together, has anyone of you ever modified "plastic cows" to display longhorn cattle? Any hints are welcome.
I've never tried this, but I would drill a small hole through the head of the cow. I'd put a wire through the hole, and shape it to form the horns. Then I'd coat the wire with putty to form the outside of the horns, and paint appropriately once the putty dried. Oh, and I'd take pictures of the finished product and post it here, too!
That's a great idea! You could put some body putty on the wire and paint..there it is! This isn't a cow, but here is a photo of Mogollon Railway's #2 "Rudy" and his longhorns on the headlight. This was a pretty common practice in the old days, most locos had deer antlers or moose racks...but since you are making longhorns...
First time I've seen a four-tone assembly, i.e. three silver plus one at the tail for backing up...:tb-ooh:
You got an out-loud laugh out of me on that one. I assume the "Bull"'s name is Nathan or the "Cow"'s name is Leslie! I've done elk horn conversions using 5-minute epoxy over stranded brass wire. That worked well for me.
Just got the September issue of MR today. On page 53 of the article on the N scale Milwaukee Road North Montana Line, there's a sidebar on how the author made longhorn cattle for his layout. Timely!
There is something, I think it's a photo caption, in the current Model Railroader. The guy used wire and Krystal Klear. Edit: this is what I get for not going on to the second page.
