    Hello S-gaugers!

I just recently joined here to ask some questions about DCC and figured I might stick around :)

Before I go into what all we have in the way of s-scale I want to mention that almost all of the work is done by my dad, and I help him when he needs an extra set of hands or ideas and such. I also know how to operate the railroad. But this brings me to my primary point, many times I will refer to "we" and "our" - no, I do not have multiple personalities, I am simply referring to my dad and I.

So, my dad has been into S gauge pretty much forever, he had a large railroad in our old house in Kentucky which was featured in model railroader a couple times. However, we have since moved to Ohio and had to start over. The only things besides the trains we were able to salvage was around 7 buildings, from a completely finished layout.

We currently have a completely functional layout and are nearing completion of a short-line which we added after the rest of the railroad was finished. We actually have set the new short-line onto the site of our old N-scale dog-bone layout. Very little scenery has been done yet, both rivers are in rough stages, and one hillside above the helix is also getting close to what one might call finished. All the track is ballasted though.

Here are the specs of the railroad:

    - Scale S
    - DC
    - 741 feet of track
    - 52 turnouts
    - 2 power packs
    - 20 mainline blocks (can be set to Power Pack 1, No Power, or Power Pack 2)
    - 23 Engines
    - Track is built on cork roadbed and has been ballasted
    - Double deck design:
-- Bottom level has the yard, a reversing loop, and new short-line
-- Top level has double track mainline, a triple track reversing loop, a couple sidings, and a 4-track section that will be a future station with a town.
    - Connection the top & bottom deck:
    -- Helix
-- 3% grade with (we do use helpers for long trains)

I have added some pictures to my S-Scale album in my profile for anyone interested. If you have any questions about the layout, or would like some more detailed photos just let me know! The beauty of digital is that it will only take me like 5 minutes to take and upload a picture.

    Hi LordPyro,

Welcome to trainboard. I enjoyed your S scale album, excellent track work. I hope you post some more pictures of the curved switch your dad is building.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

Thanks for sharing not only the S, but also your G scale.

In your photos, I see an ALCo diesel with a partial name showing of "Kentucky...?" Is that the name of your railroad? The one picture of a long section which is stated to eventually be a bridge should be spectacular. I can't wait to see that! How long is it?

LordPyro, also welcome to the S scale section. The S scale section has been dead for a while and thought maybe perhaps no one really ran S scale trains any more until you came along. The album you posted is nice and I like the train room. I would like to see some pictures of your live steam G scale trains also. I'm glag to see there is someone out there who still runs S scale.

Who is the manufacturer of your S scale trains? I was just curious.

Also here is the link to LordPyro S scale train album, very nice >

    Thanks!

I posted 3 more pictures of the finished switch in the same album.

Yes, the Kentucky Road (Winchester, Lexington & Frankfort) is a fictional railroad my dad started on his original layout in 1978, our new railroad also keeps the same theme but with other railroads that are around this area put in too, such as the Pennsy, Erie Lackawana, and C&O.

The bridge is about 6 feet long.

I posted pictures of all our engines with the manufacturers as well, but for the most part American Models, S-Helper Service, and some Samhongsa Imports.

Also - that is the only live steam G scale engine we have right now, did you want some more pictures of it?

I would love to see more pictures of the live steam engine in the G scale section. We only have 2 live steamers in the G scale section now and would like to see more join and come aboard. I'm going to a all Large Scale train show this month and will make sure I get some pictures at the Live Steamers club.

One of the G scale custom manufacturers by the name of CMP or Custom Model Products has actually contracted thier PA/PB sets to be made by Samhongsa. I forgot about S-Helper service until you just mentioned it. I met with the founder a long time ago at a all scale train show, thier stuff looked great.

Well, next time we run it I will take a couple more photos for you!

We might run it tonight, and if not probably sometime this weekend.
