I really need to stay away from ebay. I've made several purchases that were just too good to pass up!

    1. 2 Brand new Bachmann 8-40CW Spectrum 90$ for the pair
    [IMG]

    2. A giant lot of Intermodal trucks, well cars, containers and spine frames for the road going semis. 140$, easily worth twice that.

    3. Small lot of Walthers piggy backs (I think) 27$
    [IMG]

    4. 1 very rare Bachmann MBTA F40- 30$
    [IMG]

    5. 1 Proto 2000 Santa Fe GP30 - 39$

    6. 3 Bachmann GP30- About 85$ for all three.

    And finally:
    7. I was tired of losing Walthers 90 foot turn tables so I saw this pop up for very cheap instead. Can I use it in place of a turn table for servicing engines? Cost me 56$! ITS BRAND NEW! They got for 200+ all day!

Yes. You can use it. It's your railroad.

Most facilities use a turntable, probably due to those being in use from steam days. And they can turn an engine end-for-end, Those places where I have transfer tables in use are more in the back shops areas where heavy rebuilds were ongoing.

If you have a serious ebay addiction and find yourself in submission to impulsive buys, I'd recommend the following procedure:

    1) Find a prototype railroad and era you like.
    2) Stick to that railroad and era for dear life.
    3) You will find you just saved mountains of money for other things your layout needs.
    4) If steps 1 to 3 fail, have somebody confiscate your computer!

    I know all about it.
I am now retired and have purchased over 100 engines in the last year. I think i can turn the economy around. The great deals i have from Ebay US wasn't enough so i have also used Ebay UK for english, french, and german engines. Never had a bad purchase in over 500 transactions.
My purchases include over 10 sound engines (Atlas,Broadway, and Athearn) all under $100.00.
The best was a Broadway AC6000 Blue line for $65.00. Yes $65.00 The seller thru in an Athearn C44 dummy at no charge.

Did it again. Bought a "vintage" Athearn DD40. I saw the 8 wheel trucks and just could not say no. Comes with original box etc. Pics when it gets here.

Question for you sir. Is modeling America while living across the pond difficult/expensive? What is the lure to do so? I'm just curious.

    I am too....

....there I admit it. You are not alone my friend. =) I too share in your addiction. I've been buying almost anything with BNSF, BN or ATSF emblazoned on it. Luckily I have quite a number of brass items locomotives in my collection that I do need so I'm auctioning them in order to purchase the newer equipment.

You have a couple proper looking 8-40CWs. How do they run?

I understand how you feel. I also enjoy purchasing trains through eBay.

I, however, tend to be out-bid on just about everything I want. This makes the hit to my wallet quite a bit less!!!

Good luck in your train hunting!

Transfer table came the other day, started assembling it. What a fiddly thing!
OLD Athearn DD40 came too. Neat model!
Bought a decoder to attempt to wire up the CSX.

I too bid on many more items than I actually end up buying. My wife says I should not despair when I don't win an auction on a locomotive I really really want...but rather should be happy knowing I made some other guy pay more for it than he would have had to otherwise. LOL

    I know the feeling...
I model NYC in S Scale, but I'm helping a friend build a HO basement size layout based on ATSF La Junta area circa 1955-1960, with stage yards for 12 trains.

    Sooo, I just had to go out to EvilBay and buy 4 complete trains with power to run on this not yet built layout;
An ALCO Alligator X3 powered w/sound 24 car coal train.
    A 2-10-4 powered w/sound 28 car ice refrigerator train.
A GP-7 powered branch passenger train

and a GE C30-7, U30C, X3 powered TOFC train with Flexi Vans, 89 footers, and spine cars to boot!
doesn't fit the era, but I really like those big GE's and TOFC

    Lot's of $$$$

    eBay addiction...

I know the feeling, Garrett... I used to get a lot of things from eBay but pretty soon I saturated my pike with engines and cars and there was nothing else I needed. Nowadays, and it's very rare, I buy children's books and DVD's for my grand daughter. Haven't bought a train item in 10 months. Had I kept going, the rolling stock would have been falling off the tracks onto the floor! Let's say: I got there by default!
